1. Workplace Climate

Lausas, Victoria Presslor
Group 3
2. Rules
Rules in the workplace are meant to give an outline of what is expected and needed for that company or
school.
Rules can change the nature of the workplace by making the employees feel like they are always being
looked down to. If your workplace has very strict rules you may feel less comfortable at your job. If the
rules are more lenient, the employees will feel better about their bosses and about work. These people
will be happier about coming to work and will feel better all around.
3. The effects of Strict Rules
Employees will feel stressed and will be afraid to speak their minds. They feel that
everything they do is being watched. The employees will dread coming to work. The employees
will get their jobs done on time, have a better work ethic and care about the task at hand. They
know that if they do well they will be compensated well for it. They employees will earn more
raises and will be more likely to follow the rules that are established by the company.
4. The Effects of Lenient Rules
The employees will feel free to be themselves and to be expressive in what they do. They will get
work done at a leisurely pace because they are not afraid of the consequences. The employees won’t
respect the employers or their designated hours. Production and quality will go down because they don’t
care about the job. They are less likely to receive raises because of their poor work ethic. They are more
likely to break the rules and see what they can get away with.
5. Instrumental
Definition: A work environment that is constantly working to be better than people around them. An example can be the
CEO of Ninja Corporation. He makes choice that better his company. They aren’t always considered the best in the
interest of others however. He has also been known to hurt his opponent and steal their business for himself. This creates
an unethical business.
6. Trust
Trust is very important in how a business operates. It creates a healthy environment for people working there, It can also
help with things such as the productivity and teamwork. WHen team members trust each other, they trust in their skills
and opinions about different topics. It can help in the team choice how to get things done or on how to fix things to make
the company stronger.
7. Unified
Unified work environment means that everyone is working together as a team. It means that everyone works together to
make their company or business better and not just their own personal interest. It can also be called a collaborative work
environment as well. For example, when a team has a large launch of a new product or campang coming out, everyone
works together to get things in place for it to go as smoothly as possible so it can be successful and look the best it can.
8. Coaching/Mentoring:
Coaching and mentoring both have different
types of definitions.
Coaching- Efforts made, usually by a manager, to
help an employee develop skills and knowledge
in order to achieve success in their specific job.
Mentoring- Mentoring is a broader term which
means a leader is helping an employee balance
both personal and professional lives while also
building a career.
What makes a good leader?
A good leader has faith in everyone’s beliefs,
earns respect of the team, be able to push
their people to do their best, not leading by
force, and many more. Having a good leader
will no doubt ensure that the increase in
motivation, respect, and positive outcomes.
Examples of Good
Leadership:
Communication
Delegating
Positivity
9. Recognition:
Recognition: Praising, complimenting, or showing
gratitude towards an employee for their hard work and
motivation.
Should you recognize?
Recognizing an employee's dedication and hardwork is a
very positive atmosphere to build in the work climate.
When people know their leader is proud of them, it
motivates them to be better in themselves and in their
work. It develops trust, loyalty, and friendships that
benefit the overall organization.
Are there Pros and Cons?
Pros:
Allows employees to feel appreciated
It doesn’t cost anything to be supportive and positive
Happier employees means better productivity
Helps keep employees focused and concentrated on the
task and goal at hand
Cons:
Constant recognition can begin to feel empty and
meaningless
Favoritism
Recognition doesn't always fit the accomplishment
It could create a sense of entitlement
Examples of good
recognition:
Praise
Appreciation
Letters
Prizes
10. Social Vs. Non-Social:
Social workplace environments are areas such as
offices, accounting, teachers, and social jobs. Non-Social
workplaces, independent careers, are places such as
artists, finance, marketing, and more.
There are drastic differences between the two. They
both share a handful of benefits and rewards. In a social
workplace, you are able to build a team that can help
solve complications and bring new opinions and ideas to
the company. People can build eachother up, bring
confidence and motivation, and help others stay on track.
When you are in an independent workplace, you mostly
rely on yourself and your actions to succeed. You create
the atmosphere and climate. It’s easier to focus and more
challenging.
A good workplace can either be Social or Non-Social.
However, it is found more beneficial to be in a social
workplace. More people means more varieties in
atmospheres. An office can work together to come up with
new ideas and methods for their company.
If everyone in the office has a positive and helpful
attitude, then the work will be more productive and
efficient. It is a little more complex to handle all the work
independently when it can be distributed evenly to others.
11. Independent
Independent is when you are free from the outside control; not depending on another’s authority. There are many different
types of independents one is when you work by yourself, such as an artist. They other is when you are in a join group or in
project, could be a rock back but had different roles, or in a play.
12. Sink or Swim -> Succeed or Fail
When succeeding you achieve the desire aim or result. Such as
when a business are winning over shareholders, employees, and the
public.
When failing is when you are unsuccessful in achieving one’s goal.
Such as when some someone in a business gives a presentation and
they get voted out, or if the CEO signs someone to do something
and they fail at the task.
13. Caring
Caring is displaying kindness and concern for
others. Nurses are an example of caring, they
take care for the sick, help the injured, and the
helpless. Fighter Fires are other example they
help others that are in need, save others that
need to be saved.
14. Gender or Sex Discrimination
What is ender or Sex
Discrimination?:
Sex Discrimination is
treating someone unfairly
because of the person's
gender,
Women have proven to be
equally as successful and can
also have the same skills but
in some workplaces it holds
people back to hire them just
because of their gender.
Are there laws that cover gender
discrimination?:
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a
federal law that protects people to not be
hired because of their sex.
Also, they can’t pay you less because of your
gender. In the Equal Pay Act it makes it
illegal to pay someone less because of their
gender.
“ One-in-four working women (25%) say
they have earned less than a man who was
doing the same job; one-in-twenty working
men (5%) say they have earned less than a
female peer.” (www.pewresearch.org)
Examples of Sexism in the Workplace:
Stereotypical tasks at work such as
having women fill out paperwork, and
the phone, and working at the front desk.
Some men won’t hire women because
they are stereotypical about their traits.
15. Group Work/Teamwork
What are the Benefits of a Teamwork
Environment?:
Working with others will give you
many benefits. It builds trust and
loyalty with the people around you.
You will also work with many others
that have others strengths. Working
with others who have strengths in
things you may not will help make
the task easier to accomplish. It will
help you develop a stronger team.
It takes all the strengths from
everyone around you to make
everyone strong as a whole
Examples of Workplaces that
Involve Teamwork:
Police Officers
Professional Athletes
Construction Managers
Why Does Teamwork Matter?
When your in a teamwork
environment it creates a friendly fun
atmosphere. It also helps you
motivate the people to get their work
done.
Some of the big pluses with teamwork
is that you get a lot of feedback and
perspectives from then people in your
group.
Group work also gives you learning
opportunities. It helps you learn from
other peoples errors and helps
everyone learn how to do better
16. Values/Morals
Why are Values/Morals Important in
the Workplace?
The values you have in the workplace
describe your lifestyle. When you ask
different people what they value
everyone is going to say a different
example. For instance, if you ask a
teacher what they value they are gonna
say something like happiness or the joy
of helping others. If you ask an
accountant they will say they value
money. It shows the type of person you
are and your goals.
Examples of Workplace Values:
Respect
Passion
Loyalty
Making a Difference
Honesty
Reliability
Trust
Communication
Your workplace will have
different values based on
the workplace
environment. It depends on
what the organization
cares about.
When people are
interviewing they are going
to look at your values.
They will take that and
align it with who they want
higher. When people go
look for jobs they are going
to look for jobs they will
value. This could be your
work ethic, your
communication, or even
what you believe in.
17. Sexual Harassment
Sexual Harassment is considered inappropriate verbal
or physical actions. This can happen to ether a male and
female but it is more common in females.
Sexual Harassment does not just affect the people involved. When workers see sexual Harassment
in the workplace they have to experience the hostility and they can see the the organization is lax.
18. Responsibility
Responsibility in the workplace plays a big role. If workers are not responsible they wouldn’t be a reliable
worker and know when to get their job done. Responsibility is not just getting your work done on time. It
is getting to your job on time ready to go, putting effort into your work making it the best you can do.
When someone in the workplace is not responsible they can miss their
deadlines. Then someone else would have to step up do help them there
their job done which would put the company back as a whole.
19. Income
Income can affect the workplace climate in
many ways for example for servers or
bartenders have to always be in a good
mood so they can take care of their guests
to get a good tip. With other business that
do not make tips or commission they make
a set amount of money if there in a good
mood or not.
