2. Before CP450
Career goals:
I knew I wanted to have a career in a field I enjoyed, had
flexibility, and provided me with financial security…but WHAT
IS THAT GOING TO BE?!
Job search knowledge:
Lost. I figured I would search for jobs the way I had in the
past, but ultimately I would stay with my current job until
something else came along…NOT ANYMORE!!!
3. Positives of activities in class
Skills Activities
I hate the question on a resume that wants you to sum up
what good you’d bring to a company. Without looking
cocky, I can now do that and be confident.
Interview Activities
I have been through several interviews and done really well
at them, but now I know the etiquette and what the
interviewer is expecting. Always have a question or two for
them.
Resume Activities
I’m glad I had someone to rip apart my resume and make it
look like a college student wrote it and not a 5th grader,
definitely helpful with going into the job search.
4. Strengths
Outgoing personality
I see this as one of my biggest strengths because as a person
who works, and wants to continue, with the public it’s
important to be easy to an extrovert. (even if I’m slightly
obnoxious!)
Goal Oriented
I set goals in the work place and achieve them to the best
of my abilities.
Attention to detail
I pay attention to all the little details of situations and try be
observant as possible so something is not overlooked.
5. Weaknesses
#1 hands down, TIME MANAGEMENT!
I procrastinate, find less important things more important
than they should be, and push things til the last minute. This
is mostly in school by it can affect my job if I’m not careful.
Ticking time bomb
It takes a lot to get me to my breaking point but when I hit it,
I haven’t been my most professional.
Of course, as I get older I try keep these under control, it’s
just something I notice in myself
6. Self discoveries
My values.
I have always valued friendship and that was made more
concrete in our values exercise. As well as my value of
keeping a higher power (GOD) important in my decisions
and life.
Shyness.
I knew I could be timid in certain situations, especially when
acquaintances, but I didn’t realize how much so until we
were told to move around the room. I prefer strangers.
7. Informational Interview
What occupation or career have I considered and what
factors play heavily in this consideration?
Sales Representative in the Hospitality Industry would be
a career I’d not only enjoy but I’d thrive in that kind of
environment. The struggles discussed were ones I could
handle, no need to relocate, and flexible weekly
schedule were perks.
Assisting people in planning events or gatherings, getting
company’s partnership in our hotel, and our name out to
the new businesses in town were also things I’d enjoy with
being a Sales Rep in the Hospitality Industry.
8. At this point…
My short term goals
GRADUATE IN MAY!
Graduation is my main concern right now. I am working as
well, and doing the best of my ability for my job, but I am
focused on my degree.
My long term goals
GET A LIFE!
A few of my main goals in life are to have a career that I can
stand on my own two feet with. If I marry I want to be able
to support myself without his income in case something
happens and I don’t want to have to rely on others.
Also, I want a career that has flexibility so if I decide to
reproduce than I can actually see them grow up.
9. Motivations & Obstacles
My motivation and obstacle is the same thing, my
inability to approach “important people”.
I want to use it as a motivation to challenge myself to
network and put myself out there.
Networking is the hardest thing for me as far as “cold”
networking where I don’t know many people. I have
actually landed several jobs by knowing people but if I were
thrown into a networking event I think I’d sink and I’d like to
learn to swim.
10. Other relevant points
This class definitely gave me more insight on what
employers are looking for.
I feel armed with more knowledge than I had coming
into it, so I don’t feel like I’ll be going into battle to get a
job blind.
I like knowing how to answer those awkward questions in
an interview, as well. That definitely helped and I can
remain calm and not say “uhhhmmm well, I’m
awesome!”
