- Indoor location capability. It’s no surprise that GPS does not work indoors. And the reality is, most “things” businesses want to track are often stored, used, or located indoors. The list of items is that move indoors and out is endless—from finished goods, to bikes to tools to specialty racks and totes for shipping. While GPS fails indoors, other indoor location technologies – passive RFID, UWB, WiFi – have expensive infrastructure and no or limited outdoor/in-transit capabilities. Lack of network coverage. Cellular networks have been optimized for use by people streaming videos and data, not for the bytes and bits required for business and industrial IOT use cases. The reality is that network coverage rarely exists in the four corners of factories, warehouses, distribution centers, refineries, and the like. But it is exactly inside the facilities where things need to be tracked and monitored. What options exist that can provide low-cost, high-performance indoor tracking and monitoring?

- The primary one is if you need precise indoor tracking, or have a high value asset that is primarily indoors (even with coarse location), but wanders outdoors from time to time. The former is obvious; the latter is driven by power consumption, because you would be primarily using SymBLE for backhaul, since if you only need coarse indoor location you can use wifi sniffing. The secondary would be if you are checking in more frequently than once an hour. This would be driven by data pricing, and the fact that more frequently than this would put standard users in a higher data plan. This can be mitigated slightly by using MQTT, even more so using CoAP like us, or more simply, with negotiation with the cellular provider. For larger customers they're more interested in monthly revenue than the price per byte, so this can also be solved in a non-technical way also. The third would be checking in less frequently than 2-4x per day, where good low power design is important for extending battery life. We don't have a monopoly on that, and with PSM it is *easier* to implement, but it is still somewhat differentiated.
