 No post code system (with exception of
Dublin)
 Rural areas: county, nearest post town and
townland
 Urban addresses: County, city or town, street
name, house number and apartment or flat
number where relevant
 The 26 county names can be written in
English or Irish
 The country on the envelope can be “Ireland”
or “Éire”*
 There is no country called the Republic of Ireland; that name was once used, but was
abolished long ago; now it is the name of a football team.

 The addressee can be identified thanks to unique post code
+ street number combination

 The Hispanic honorifics Señor, Señora, and
Señorita are truncated as Sr., Sra., Srta.,
respectively.
 The word "Don" at the beginning of a
person’s name indicates a title of respect to a
distinguished or older individual
 In Spain, most people live in flats so the floor
number (4º) and often also the letter (B) of
the flat are commonly used.
 C = calle - street. Spanish does not use the myriad of possibilities as English
does: road, way, mews, lane etc. but there are some other names:
• 3o - third floor
• 3ª - 3rd Door (NOT Floor!)
• s/n - without ("sin") number -- as when a building is on a street, but
doesn't have a building/house number.
• No. - (Usually indicates that a house/building number follows. Occurs in
only some addresses.)
