GIS analysis of accident hotspots in Bhubaneswar city, India using QGIS

2. ACCIDENTS MAY HAPPEN DUE TO:
 Over speed
 Without wearing Helmet
 Without wearing Seatbelt
 Not following Traffic Rules
 Driving while speaking on phone

3.  Total number of RTA reported for the year was 625 in Bhubaneswar City.
 Majority of the accidents had occurred during 9–12 am in both urban and rural
areas.
 Around 84% occurred in urban areas and mainly on the National Highways
(46.7%); 18% of RTA occurred during rainfall.
 Motor cars (37%) and trucks (19.1%) were predominately involved. Majority of
the victims were in the productive age group, 18–24, years and mainly
constituted males (68%).

5. We are using Hotspot analysis for accident prone areas:
(1) To determine the distribution of accident spots in the city.
(2) To suggest recommendations to the traffic police and
administration.
(3) To locate the nearest Hospital in case of any emergency.

6.  We collected the Data from various sources and
created their attributes, ex:( Hospitals, Accident
spots, etc.)
 We have created a buffer of the near by hospital
closer to the accident areas.
 We have used a plugin named heat map to identify
the accident areas in BHUBANESWAR city.
 Finally we composed a map Containing all those
layers.

9. • The data which we have created is comprehensive enough to
provide a thorough basis for planning intervention strategies
to reduce fatalities due to road crashes.
• The data currently available do not give the true magnitude
of the burden due to road traffic crashes but it is correct
upto a great extent.
• We hope that with the help of our Data, The no of Accidents
can be prevented and the injured can be taken to a near-by
Hospital immediately.

10.  This project will help in reducing the Number of Accidents in our city.
 In locating nearby Hospitals in case of an Emergency.
 The Details about the Hospitals and accidental areas are also
mentioned.
More effort is needed to have a comprehensive understanding of the
various aspects of road traffic crashes.
But it is also the duty of every citizen to drive Responsibly.
