What is Preventive Health Control ?
To explain this we better look first at what Health care is doing.
Worldwide health care starts when a person falls ill. If you fall ill, you go to
the doctor. A doctor analyses your situation and makes an anamneses.
After the doctor has drawn a conclusion a treatment or medication follows
till you are better or in a less serious condition. Finally the doctor tells you
that you are better and the treatment stops or continues in a directed way.
That , in short, is health care.

Humans are not careful with their health.
Challenges , trials and the need to
experiment is typical for all of us.
We try out smoking, drinking, eat more than we need,
party all night, sleep to less….
Some have a more dangerous lifestyle
in sport or adventurous games.
The human nature is to challenge life itself,
we want to experience.
We want to live…..
So we are not aware of the dangers and
impact all have on our health.
Our lifestyle brings risks and we are
surprised when we fall ill !
5
Preventive Healthcare have to be called Sick
Prevention care because of what we are doing.
We (!) try to prevent people from falling ill.
Our work is to make people aware of their lifestyle.
Inform and guide them to have a
healthier and more joyful lifestyle.
A healthy lifestyle is also a productive lifestyle.
The healthy person is productive and profitable.
Every profitable is an asset
to himself and the company.
6
Why should we implement Prevention into the commercial sections ?
- Healthy employee deliver better quality of work
- Healthy employee deliver more work
- Healthy employee deliver a continue production
- Healthy employee do motivate each other to a higher level (of
production)
- Healthy employee communicate better
- Healthy people make money
- Healthy employee are easy to manage/lead
- Healthy employee can build a nice environment
- Healthy employee make work enjoyable

10
What other problems do we face in the future ?
- The fast growth of elderly
o Within 20 years we expect a rise of over 20%
o People live longer
o Diseases are better controlled
- Decrease of births in original Chinese
o One child policy
o Decreasing marriages
o More singles
- Future generations are highly educated
o Limited work force in all segments of industry
o Increase of middle and higher management (competition)
o Import of labor for lower production jobs
11
- Unhealthier lifestyle
o Irregular eating
o Too much drinking
o Smoking
o Less physical activity
- More severe competition
o To many high educated for the same position
o Most jobs in densely populated area’s
- More unsuccessful relationships/marriages
o Less time to start a relationship
o Little time to develop or improve a relationship
o Hardly time to build a real family structure
o Easier way of thinking about divorce
12
- Worsening of living environment
o food pollution,
o air pollution and others,
o climate change
o crowded cities)
- More pressures
o housing,
o children education,
o medical care,
o inflation,
o competition on work floor etc.)
13
You are al aware these problems are urgent !
We need to provide solutions.
How are we able to do this.
We know
Healthy people are able to ;
• Work longer and better
• Are easier in communication and relationships
• Are more productive and sexually active
• Can cope with stress (much) better
14
Chinese companies work
different from Western companies.
The vision is based on authority and levels of pressure.
Each level must apply pressure
to another to get “things” done.
Pressure can be healthy and unhealthy.
Chinese try to find a balance.
But the society has changed faster than
Chinese philosophy can follow.
To demonstrate this I show the
original model used to teach.
15
16
The model shows the three steps of transforming pressure into
competitive power ;
1 / Evaluating the pressure system objectively.
- Decide the reasonable limit of pressure
- Building ways to release the pressure
2 / Transforming proper pressure into positive pressure
3 / Transforming positive pressure into competitive power
Hereby I want to give a sample of what is done in a large size Chinese
telecommunication company ;
- Handle the relationship between business transformation and
employee pressure
- Handle relationship between business transformation and
- employee motivation
- Handle relationship between business transformation and
competitive power
- Promote the relationship from the business transformation and
employee pressure to competitive positive market power
-
This sounds like a Western internal marketing strategy !
17
What is done in China under the name Prevention ?
The traditional TCM is still widely used, it
combines Prevention and Sick care
Massage , Spa and other passive treatments
Some companies provide Health check ups
The traditional (but fading) active forms
such as Tai Chi
Compare the Western world Chinese have always
been aware of the importance of Prevention.
How can we revive this tradition ?
18
Apply Health check servicesApply Health check services
The first action we should take is to offer
Health check services.
What kind of services we can offer ?
Age 12 – 18 activity health check
Age 18 – 30 health check on stress and lifestyle
Age 30 – 50 every year general health check
Age 40 - up lifestyle and activity check
A health check is a combined check with possible referrals.
- Fill in questionnaire
- Follow an activity test
- A medical check when the questionnaire refers to that

In the ideal situation the customer
- Receives a health / lifestyle report
- A health promoting advise when needed
Between customer and advisor there is
an exchange of information.
All information will be (anonymously !)
loaded into a computer data base.
The data are used to make the check system
more detailed and accurate.
The more data, the better we will be able to predict health.

From the chart we can conclude that
many topics influence each other.
To understand the structure we have to split up
in a 3 fold target.
1 / Knowledge center
2 / Consultancy center
3 / Planning center
These 3 centers are split up in ;

HOW do we set up the system in China in the easiest and
most practical way ?
Before we start we have to keep in mind ;
Collecting data is the backbone of all systems
Data are worth more than gold
All activities and levels are interlinked and inseparable
All information runs in circles
Time is essential

PRESENTATIE FESCO MARCH 2011 aprl

  • 1. Presentation FESCO, Shanghai, China Presenter ; Arnaud van der Veere PhD Cost saving Health systems, your savings for later !
  • 2. 2 What is Preventive Health Control ? To explain this we better look first at what Health care is doing. Worldwide health care starts when a person falls ill. If you fall ill, you go to the doctor. A doctor analyses your situation and makes an anamneses. After the doctor has drawn a conclusion a treatment or medication follows till you are better or in a less serious condition. Finally the doctor tells you that you are better and the treatment stops or continues in a directed way. That , in short, is health care.
  • 4. 4 Humans are not careful with their health. Challenges , trials and the need to experiment is typical for all of us. We try out smoking, drinking, eat more than we need, party all night, sleep to less…. Some have a more dangerous lifestyle in sport or adventurous games. The human nature is to challenge life itself, we want to experience. We want to live….. So we are not aware of the dangers and impact all have on our health. Our lifestyle brings risks and we are surprised when we fall ill !
  • 5. 5 Preventive Healthcare have to be called Sick Prevention care because of what we are doing. We (!) try to prevent people from falling ill. Our work is to make people aware of their lifestyle. Inform and guide them to have a healthier and more joyful lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is also a productive lifestyle. The healthy person is productive and profitable. Every profitable is an asset to himself and the company.
  • 6. 6 Why should we implement Prevention into the commercial sections ? - Healthy employee deliver better quality of work - Healthy employee deliver more work - Healthy employee deliver a continue production - Healthy employee do motivate each other to a higher level (of production) - Healthy employee communicate better - Healthy people make money - Healthy employee are easy to manage/lead - Healthy employee can build a nice environment - Healthy employee make work enjoyable

  • 8. Typical managers diseases are ; Stress related skin rashes Pain in muscles and joints Concentration problems Feeling tired Sleep problems Eating disorders And so many more who finally lead to a total dysfunction of the manager BURN OUT Recognise them ? Time for action !
  • 10. 10 What other problems do we face in the future ? - The fast growth of elderly o Within 20 years we expect a rise of over 20% o People live longer o Diseases are better controlled - Decrease of births in original Chinese o One child policy o Decreasing marriages o More singles - Future generations are highly educated o Limited work force in all segments of industry o Increase of middle and higher management (competition) o Import of labor for lower production jobs
  • 11. 11 - Unhealthier lifestyle o Irregular eating o Too much drinking o Smoking o Less physical activity - More severe competition o To many high educated for the same position o Most jobs in densely populated area’s - More unsuccessful relationships/marriages o Less time to start a relationship o Little time to develop or improve a relationship o Hardly time to build a real family structure o Easier way of thinking about divorce
  • 12. 12 - Worsening of living environment o food pollution, o air pollution and others, o climate change o crowded cities) - More pressures o housing, o children education, o medical care, o inflation, o competition on work floor etc.)
  • 13. 13 You are al aware these problems are urgent ! We need to provide solutions. How are we able to do this. We know Healthy people are able to ; • Work longer and better • Are easier in communication and relationships • Are more productive and sexually active • Can cope with stress (much) better
  • 14. 14 Chinese companies work different from Western companies. The vision is based on authority and levels of pressure. Each level must apply pressure to another to get “things” done. Pressure can be healthy and unhealthy. Chinese try to find a balance. But the society has changed faster than Chinese philosophy can follow. To demonstrate this I show the original model used to teach.
  • 15. 15
  • 16. 16 The model shows the three steps of transforming pressure into competitive power ; 1 / Evaluating the pressure system objectively. - Decide the reasonable limit of pressure - Building ways to release the pressure 2 / Transforming proper pressure into positive pressure 3 / Transforming positive pressure into competitive power Hereby I want to give a sample of what is done in a large size Chinese telecommunication company ; - Handle the relationship between business transformation and employee pressure - Handle relationship between business transformation and - employee motivation - Handle relationship between business transformation and competitive power - Promote the relationship from the business transformation and employee pressure to competitive positive market power - This sounds like a Western internal marketing strategy !
