1. Agitating teachers damage PU office
The agitating teachers and officials at the Pokhara University (PU) have vandalised the
university’s central office in Pokhara on Sunday. The contract teacher s have been agitating
against the university saying that they had been removed from the post without prior notice.
Recently, a meeting of the PU Executive Council had decided to remove 95 contract teacher s
and six other university officials.
The protestors vandalised the office of Vice-chancellor, Registrar and Dean, following which
security personnel were deployed in large numbers to contain the situation. Associate Professor
Yograj Lamichhane said that they were protesting against the decision to remove teacher s and
officials who had been working at the university for the past 1-7 years.
Vice-chancellor Khagendra Bhattarai, however, informed that the contract teacher s had not been
removed, adding that the university was just looking to settle the procedure. He further added
that he did not have concrete knowledge about the situation in PU as he was in Kathmandu.
