1. Supporting the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) 2014 theme,
“Feeding the World; Caring the Earth”, Young Professionals for Agricultural
Development (YPARD) Nepal has called for a photo contest from all Nepali
citizens to give strong voice to family farmers to build strong recognition
and to increase supports to the IYFF14 Campaign.
According to the press release issued by YPARD Nepal, family farming is
any domestic activity involving agriculture, forestry, pastoral and
aquaculture managed and operated by family members.
“The photo must visualize a certain aspect of family farming. The photo
entries will be sorted out by the jury including senior photographer Om
Yadav and Prof Shailesh Gurung. Then the selected photos will undergo
public voting,” informed Bivekananda Mahat, core team member of YPARD
Nepal.
According to Mahat, YPARD Nepal aims to visualize the contributions of
Nepali family farmers to livelihood through the photos.
“We hope to see submissions from the Tarai, hills and mountains so that
we can unleash the potentials of typical farming systems in all these
regions and maybe help transform the face of agriculture in Nepal,” he said.
The winning photo will take away a cash prize of Rs 20,000 while the
second- and third-place winners will be given away Rs 10,000 and Rs
5,000 respectively.
The winning photos will be awarded at the National Youth Forum on Agro-based
Entrepreneurship Development (NYFAED15) on January 9, 2015.
In the competition that is open only to Nepalis, each participant can submit
