JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the Strategic Engagement and Creative team is to connect and inspire our Michigan
Athletics community through engagement initiatives, creative content and event experiences with a focus
on a deep understanding of the University of Michigan brand and its traditions.
The Strategic Engagement and Creative Project Manager is responsible for the overall support of the
Associate Athletic Director role, as well as the point of contact for the Strategic Engagement and Creative
teams. This position will develop team-wide strategies and that increase efficiencies and the ability to
work in a collaborative way, leading to more effective decision-making.
All members of the Strategic Engagement and Creative team commit to exemplifying the values of the
Athletic Department. The Strategic Engagement and Creative teams prioritizes collaboration and
communication in order to achieve the highest levels of both efficiency and effectiveness.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management (65%)
● Assist with the tracking and reporting of strategic engagement and creative metrics and
efficiencies to ensure optimal results
● Manage the team planning process, resulting in a coordinated and efficient yearly planning
cycle to best serve our 31 teams and our community.
● Actively seek industry best practices and present opportunities and ideation to the SEC team
for potential idea adoption.
● Serve as the liaison for Strategic and Creative team intern participants
● Serve as a point of contact for the Strategic Engagement and Creative team with Athletic
Department Human Resources, assisting with candidate hosting and on-boarding process for
new team members
● Participate on the SEC leadership team to contribute to the creation of team business
processes to ensure efficiencies.
● Lead, coordinate, facilitate and motivate project resources to gain alignment on project goals
and deliverables.
● Determine timeliness and strategy for multiple projects through clear identification of
expectations
● Translate strategic visions into tangible programs and deliverables
2. Administration (15%)
● Coordinate travel for the Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Engagement, and Creative
then prepare and submit expense reports and hosting documentation for reconciliation to
maintain necessary documentation.
● Provide administrative support for project work within the SEC teams as needed
● Act as a liaison for agency work on behalf of the Associate Athletic Director of Strategic
Engagement and Creative to monitor and track communication, progress and payment.
● Organize Strategic Engagement and Creative team meetings and retreats
● Gather, organize and distribute materials for meetings, presentations, interviews, cultivation
activities and events
● Maintain and coordinate the Associate Athletic Director’s calendar and meeting requests to
create optimal time management.
● Respond to the Associate Athletic Director’s emails as appropriate, tracking correspondence
and communicating results in a timely matter.
● Serve as main point of contact for the Strategic Engagement & Creative teams and respond to
inquiries from both internal and external constituents.
● Monitor financial tracking and budget reconciliation for the Engagement, Communication
and Events budgets to ensure accurate spending
External Relations Project Management Team Liaison (15%)
● Research, implement and become the subject matter expert for the project management
system
● Set team priorities and execute team strategy
● Represent the Strategic Engagement and Creative teams within the External Relations Project
Management team to set team priorities and execute team strategy
● Collaborate on a variety of projects to deliver process improvement and increased efficiencies
for team-wide implementation
● Directs team-wide administrative needs and office management
Miscellaneous (5%)
● Provide on-site staffing for events when necessary
● Contribute as a member of a high functioning team through accountability, efficiency,
enthusiasm and leadership.
● Contribute to a culture of analytics and metrics to ensure continuous improvement
● Participate in External Relations team events as appropriate including, but not limited to,
Michigan Athletics sporting events, on and off-campus donor events and other athletic
activities as needed.
● Adhere to policies and procedures across the department, essential for a comprehensive
engagement and creative program.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
● Bachelor’s degree required.
● 1-3 years of previous work experience preferably in marketing, communications, athletic
administration, higher education or a related field.
● Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; specifically in spelling, grammar,
punctuation and proofreading.
● Desire to learn and abide by the mission, goals and objectives of the Athletic Department and Athletic
External Relations team.
● Strong commitment to the student-athlete experience.
● Excellent customer service negotiation and problem solving skills.
● Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet challenging and changing deadlines
