Mark Lancaster of Baker Hughes discusses their pump to power technology. Baker Hughes utilizes pipeline pressure to power in line turbines to create electricity.

Pumps to Power by Baker Hughes
1.
2. PaT… an Energy Saving Device
• Pump as Turbine (PaT) is an integrated skid made by coupling
a HPRT (Hydraulic Power Recovery Turbine) with an electric
generator.
• PaT converts wasted hydraulic energy into electrical energy,
that can be reused in to the plant or injected to the electrical
grid.
• HPRT is a reverse rotating Pump which produces mechanical
energy generally used as pump driver helper or other rotating
machines
PaT typical layout
3. Why use PaT and milestones
• GE Corp. ecomagination certified ... 2012
• PaT & electric generator … integrated solution
• Available for a wide range of heads and flows
• PaT replaces PRV (Pressure Reducing Valves)
• Low cost solution compared w/conventional turbines
• Reduced foot print ... Easy to install
• Leveraging HPRT experience ... +70 machines fleet
• Customers fast ROI <2.5 years
