1. PET Bottling Industry in India
Recently there was this news item about Indian food industry. That the Indian food and grocery market
is the worldâs sixth largest, with retail contributing 70% of the sales. It is projected to grow at the rate
of 104%, touching US$ 482 billion by 2020. The other vital aspects were that the Indian food
processing industry accounts for 32% of the countryâs total food market, 14% of manufacturing GDP,
13% of Indiaâs exports and 6% of total industrial investment.
Further it was stated that the Indian food service industry is expected to reach US$ 78 billion by 2018.
The Indian gourmet food market is currently valued at US$ 1.3 billion and is growing at a CAGR of
20%. It is expected to cross US$ 2.8 billion by 2015. And above all Indian food brands are increasingly
finding prime shelf space in retail chains abroad and the credit for this factor is attributed to the PET
Preform Bottle Industries in the country.
Indeed, PET, acronym for polyethylene terephthalate has revolutionised the medium of packaging. This
plastic based material for bottles, jars and assorted containers, is light, compact, unbreakable and it can
be completely recycled. Because of its light weight, no heavy costs in transportation are incurred as
compared to glass, ceramic, aluminium and tin. Thus it is extensively used for packaging thousands of
products such as â
⢠Filtered and mineral water
⢠Beverages including alcoholic spirits
⢠Processed syrups, sauces, ketchups and jams etc. as well as honey
⢠Edible oils
⢠Personal care items like cosmetics, shampoo and lotions
⢠Pharmaceutical products
⢠Pathological laboratory aids like test tubes
⢠Detergents and pesticides
Its excellent barrier characteristics against temperature, air and UV rays reduce waste. As such organic
products packed in this plastic last longer. And optimum utilisation of these qualities depends on the
design and high grade PET preform injection moulds (spelt mold in the US English) used for the
production of the relevant packaging containers. Products made through the injection stress blow
moulding (ISBM) process are virtually tamper-proof, unbreakable and thus almost all the risks are
eliminated.
Incidentally, the PET packaging has facilities for a wide range of attractive colours, neck designs and
matching closures and caps. Apart from the conventional twist tops, the users can also opt for versions
like flip-tops and disk-tops among others. The flip-top closures are mostly used for cosmetics.
In the Indian scenario, there are several leading companies engaged in providing solutions to the PET
packaging have attained global recognition by adhering to high standards in the design, development
and production of moulds and allied services like refurbishment. No wonder, the Indian PET mould
industry has been offering low maintenance and highly power efficient products to hundreds of clients
at home and abroad.
2. One among such companies, within a decade of its formation has installed more than 900 moulds
across the world and over 500 systems in 24/32/48/72 cavitations. This company has mastered the
state-of-the-art technology ands facilities like CAD for utmost precision and the most modern tool
room. As for quality control, it accurately checks every single mould on specific parameters at its lab
that is fully equipped with ultra modern testing machines, latest tools, and advanced instruments to
hasten the process.
