LSBM offers two distinct types of courses at higher education level –
Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in business, management and
computing/IT that are relevant and research-informed. The purpose of this
booklet is to provide an overview of these courses and your study at the college.
As you will see, both levels of study offer a huge breadth and depth of

UUndergraduate/Postgraduate Courses
Overview
Our Undergraduate programme includes BSc (Hons) degrees (three years) and
Edexcel HND Diploma Courses (two years). The Postgraduate courses require
between twelve and eighteen months of full-time study. Each academic year
consists of two semesters of eleven weeks of tuition, followed by assessments.
On average, you will be required to register for four modules/units per semester.
Eachmoduleclassmeetsonceeachweekandmostsessionsarethreehourslong.
At LSBM we realise that you are unique and plans can change. Consequently,
there are two opportunities (September and February) each year for you to
join the Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree courses or four opportunities
(September, November, February and April) each year to join the vocational
Edexcel HND courses. The academic year is divided into two or four eleven-
week semesters depending on your course, beginning in September and
November (Autumn semester), and February and April (Spring semester).
In all years, you will take a compulsory module in Student Development, which
will provide you with the essential academic study skills necessary to succeed
at higher education level. Each of the Undergraduate courses begins with
Level 4 (the first year), which provides an excellent introduction to your chosen
field of study. The knowledge you will gain, together with academic guidance,
will help you on a pathway for your skills and career aspirations during the
following years of study. The Edexcel HND courses are especially designed
for those who seek vocational qualifications and/or wish to study one of the
degrees provided by LSBM, but whose present qualifications do not permit
direct entry. Candidates who successfully complete the HND may be considered
for progression to the third year of the Undergraduate degree course.
Our classes are small, with a maximum of 30 students in any standard class,
and you will benefit from a high level of personal attention. Our world-class
programmes are practical and focus on enabling you to develop the skills you
need to become future leaders in the international business world. Every course
benefitsfromadditionalweeklycontacttimewithyourCourseLeader,specifically
allocatedtoprovideyouwithindividualhelpinimprovinglearningandresolving
academic issues in relation to your specific course. You will also be encouraged
to participate in social and internship experience schemes with small, medium
and large companies to gain valuable practical social and business skills.

ABOUT THE COURSE:
This course is designed to provide a specialist vocational programme over two years, offering a strong,
sector-related emphasis on practical business skills and facilitating the development of requisite knowl-
edge and understanding. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in key concepts and practical
skills. It is comprised of eight units at the Level 4 and eight units at Level 5, with each level designed for
one year of study*. Successful completion of the HND could permit progress to a third year BSc (Honours)
through Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Systems Development
ABOUT THE COURSE:
BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computing and Systems Development is designed to provide
a specialist vocational programme, opening the doors to an ever changing world of IT, but also offering
skills for practical application in the world of business and widening understanding of current trends and
requirements.
It is comprised of eight units of Year 1 (Level 4) and eight units of Year 2 (Level 5), each level designed for
one year of study.* Successful completion of the HND could permit progress to a third year BSc (Honours)

The BSc in Business Information Systems at LSBM will enable you to develop a critical appreciation of how

10. EEExtended Diploma in Strategic Management and
Leadership
ABOUT THE COURSE:
The BTEC Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership is designed to provide a vocational
and specialist education in management that is linked to professional body requirements and contains a
clear work-related emphasis.
There is a strong emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowl-
edge and understanding in the sector. On successful completion of this qualification, national recognition
by employers enables learners to progress into or within employment and/or progression to a higher level
of study.
The ten-unit Diploma broadens and deepens the learners’ management skills and knowledge. It offers
an engaging course for higher education and adult learners who are clear about the area of employment
they wish to enter or to which they wish to progress within existing employment. It also provides a suit-
able qualification for those wishing to change career or move into employment in management following
a career break.
LSBM Level 7 BTEC Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership has been developed with
career progression and recognition by professional bodies in mind.
The first five modules of this course articulate with the first semester of UoW Newport MBA. Successful
completion of these modules may permit advanced entry on that course, subject to satisfying all other
entry requirements.

Communication Technology (ICT) Management
ABOUT THE COURSE:
The MSc in ICT at LSBM will help you widen your skills to manage all aspects of converging technolo-
gies. By the end of the course, you will have learned to evaluate technical, societal and management
dimensions of computer systems, understand the associated legal and ethical issues, the techniques and
limitations of business process reviews, and software development principles. It will primarily enable
you to understand the critical contribution of information and technology within business management
and thereby develop appropriate strategies in management. This Course explores how information and
communication technologies may be managed, and how they may serve the purposes of management.
