The basement wall of a house 5m high retains a silty sand
material with soil parameters as follows;
c = 0; f = 30°; gb = 18 kN/m3
a. If at rest conditions exists, what will be the total earth
pressure per meter length of the wall?
b. If the water table behind the wall rises to top of the wall.
Determine the change in horizontal pressure that will
occur due to the rise in water table. gsat = 20 kN/m3.
