Mr. Santosh Ostwal created NanoGanesh, a remote control device connected to water pumps that allows farmers to turn pumps on and off from their mobile phones. It received recognition in 2008. NanoGanesh helps farmers save time, energy, electricity, and water by automating pump controls. It works using separate ringtones to control pumps and provides information on power availability and pump status. The device is affordable starting at Rs. 560 and helps conserve resources while improving rural communication infrastructure and creating local jobs. Over 50,000 units have been sold across Maharashtra. Growth is expected to be high in line with growth in rural mobile penetration.
