2. The French plan of biofuels development
The French government has decided to go beyond European directives by
laying down ambitious objectives of incorporation of biofuels into fuels:
5,75% (in energy value) in 2008, 7% in 2010 and 10% by 2015.
In order to reach this target, a great industrial plan has been engaged
Authorisations 2008 2010

RESULTS
• Tests confirm the feasibility of
an industrial-scale plant, which
should achieve results higher
than initially expected.
• Phase 2 of the project with
Tereos (development of an
industrial-scale unit in order to
process 5 tons/hour of
vinasse) seems to be on track.

22. FUTUROL : the objectives
Development and marketing of a complete production
process for 2nd generation bioethanol from whole plants or
from lignocellulosic biomass (agricultural and forest residue,
green urban waste, dedicated plants, etc.)
A sustainable process in order to obtain the best possible energy
and greenhouse gas balance and throughout the entire production
process (field-to-wheel).
A flexible pilot plant (multi raw materials) in order to avoid a priori
choices and to be able to take advantage of future development of
lignocellulosic biomass production.
A competitive process through innovations and optimization of
each step (cellulose extraction, hydrolysis and fermentation processes best
suited to each raw material configuration).
