2. The Assault on Worship
• Does our worship need a face-lift?
• Does the changing world mean there should be
changes to our worship?
3. The Assault on Worship
“If an entertaining medium is the key to winning
people, why not go all the way? Why not have a
tattooed acrobat on a high wire juggle chain saws
and shout Bible verses while a dog balanced on
his head. That would draw a crowd and the
content of the would be Biblical.”
(John MacArthur)
4. Four Types of Worship
• Ignorant worship (Acts 17.23)
• Vain worship (Matthew 15.9)
• Will worship (Colossians 2.23)
• True worship (John 4.24)
5. Worship must meet approval
• Worship must meet certain necessary elements:
• It must be directed to God – the right object
(Revelation 22.9)
6. Worship must meet approval
• Worship must meet certain necessary elements:
• It must be done in spirit – it must be done out of
the right motive, for the highest purpose (John
4.24).
7. Worship must meet approval
• Worship must meet certain necessary elements:
• It must be in truth – according to God’s Word
(John 17.17).
8. Worship must meet approval
• Worshiping God to meet our approval is to offer things
that are unauthorized (Leviticus 10.1,2).
• Nadab and Abihu may have been sincere, but they
did not sacrifice in truth.
9. Remember
• Remember, true worship has:
– the proper audience–God
– the proper attitude–in spirit
– and the proper actions–in truth.
