Annual meeting in October.
Poland
This year Portugal
Next year Lebanon
It goes around each assistancy in turn. 3 or 4 days. It used be every 2 years. Not enough.
“We Jesuits are frequently surprised that,
despite our differences in culture and context, we find ourselves remarkably united. Through
prayerful discernment, open discussion, and spiritual conversations, we have again and again
been privileged to know ourselves as one in the Lord:1 one united, apostolic body seeking
what is best for the service of God in the Church and for the world.” GC35, Decree 2, para 2
St michel – our school in antananarivo
Decree 2 highlights key aspects of our spiritualtiy but the foundation is that we find God in our world, we trace his movements, track his fingerprints. The German world ‘weltfreundlichkeit’ sums it up: a positive stance to the world, a world friendly stance. That is the core of the Jesuit charism. Other groups in the church have different charisms. Some stress for example the importance of a critical attitude to the world, that the Church has insights and perspectives that stand over against ‘the world’ and that the world is in need of judgment. Jesuits don’t start there. We start with a conviction that God is part of this world. We have a sympathy for the world, seeing it with God’s eyes. Our job is to find where God is already at work and to point God out to others.
‘Our mode of proceeding is to trace the footprints of God everywhere, knowing that the Spirit of Christ is at work in all places and situations and in all activities and mediations that seek to make him more present in the world.’ (para 8)
