DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT
                          Savvy companies recognize the undeniable
                          compeƟƟve advantage in having their
workforce reflect the diversity of their
community - and the demographics of
their marketplace. To achieve a diverse
workforce, they set annual targets for the
                          percentage of expenditure dedicated to
                          diversity suppliers.

However, many organizaƟons find it hard
to meet diversity targets, mainly because
the diversity companies are mostly small
and privately held. Many of them lack
                          the required infrastructure to acƟvely
canvas for business, even from companies
with diversity goals. When the goals
do not cover second Ɵer spending, this
                          challenge becomes even harder.

A Strategic Case for Supplier Diversity
Ethnic minoriƟes make a large percentage of our
workorce, comprising 19% of the overall populaƟon in 2011
according to the Department of Labor and Bureau of Labor
Standards. AddiƟonally, the earning capacity of minoriƟes
is growing exponenƟally, with the combined purchasing power
of minoriƟes expected to approach $3 trillion by 2040.
Women are also conƟnuing to dominate the workforce at
a 58% labor parƟcipaƟon rate in 2010. The purchasing
power of women is esƟmated currently at $7 trillion,
while 85% of purchase decisions over consumer goods are
said to be made by women. Minority-owned businesses are
conƟnuing to grow as well, with a 60% growth in
African-Amercian owned businesses from 2002 to 2007. In
the U.S. today, Asians own nearly 1.5 million businesses.

The United States is becoming bigger, older, and more
diverse, and companies need to ensure that they are
posiƟoned to capitalize on these trends. Supplier diversity is 2011 U.S. Workforce Breakdown - DOL/BLS
a crucial way to achieve this goal both in terms of consumers
and suppliers. A well-managed supplier diversity program
provides businesses insights into the minority consumers’
purchasing paƩerns and preferences along with helping to
boost the company profile and image among customers.

Many minority-owned businesses are small to medium
enterprises, and thus offer disƟnct advantages in their role
as suppliers, such as compeƟƟve pricing, greater flexibility,
and higher innovaƟon. Diversifying the supply chain offers
companies a larger pool of suppliers, leading to an opportunity
to harness skills and talent. Many government organizaƟons
are increasing their own pracƟce of supplier diversity, and
demanding the same from companies in terms of compliance
                                          requirements.

Developing and implemenƟng a supplier diversity management
program will help your company be poised to take

                                                        owned, Hubzone etc.).

                                                      • Smart Track can track and report on diversity spend requirements by project or organizaƟon.

                                                       • The system supports forecasƟng of diversity spend vs. the diversity target.

                                                       • Suppliers can be ranked to indicate your most effecƟve diversity suppliers, and you can set thresholds that
automaƟcally move suppliers between Tier 1 and Tier 2 status based on performance.

                                                      • Dashboards and on demand reports ensure that you are constantly on top of your diversity iniƟaƟves.

            CompeƟƟve Advantages of Diversity Management:
           • Create a posiƟve public image and company profile • Reduce costs with a more agile supply chain
           • Avoid discrimnaƟon-based legal acƟon • Increase your work team producƟvity
           • Foster innovaƟve soluƟons • Maintain a global compeƫve advantage

Proven Results:
In Dec 2010, a client asked DCR to launch an iniƟaƟve to hire 500 veterans. Over the next eighteen months, DCR met this challenge, recruiƟng 495
veterans, and the program conƟnues today. As DCR’s core competency is not in staffing, this accomplishment was achieved by forging a strong network
of diversity suppliers and working with veterans’ career centers and online job portals. In addiƟon to the veterans sought by the client to fill their criƟcal
roles, we recruited two veterans to serve as DCR onsite program managers.

DCR prides itself in its ability to aƩract and retain a diverse workforce that is reflecƟve of the needs of our clients and the marketplace at large. DCR
currently has 83 staff employees, of which 81% are categorized as women or minoriƟes.

Twice honored with a recogniƟon from Diversitybusiness.com DCR Workforce is itself a diversity business with a deep understanding and commitment to
helping clients to meet their diversity goals. In 2012, DCR was awarded Bronze Winner in the Stevie Awards Company of the Year – Business Services. In
the same awards, DCR Workforce President, Ammu Warrier, was recognized as the Silver Medalist as Female Entrepreneur of the Year – Business Services.

Diversity Management

  • 1. DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT Savvy companies recognize the undeniable compeƟƟve advantage in having their workforce reflect the diversity of their community - and the demographics of their marketplace. To achieve a diverse workforce, they set annual targets for the percentage of expenditure dedicated to diversity suppliers. However, many organizaƟons find it hard to meet diversity targets, mainly because the diversity companies are mostly small and privately held. Many of them lack the required infrastructure to acƟvely canvas for business, even from companies with diversity goals. When the goals do not cover second Ɵer spending, this challenge becomes even harder. “ “68.80% of organizaƟons have an established supplier diversity policy, publicly posted” ~CAPS Research, June 2012
  • 2. U.S. Population Breakdown - 2010 Census A Strategic Case for Supplier Diversity Ethnic minoriƟes make a large percentage of our workorce, comprising 19% of the overall populaƟon in 2011 according to the Department of Labor and Bureau of Labor Standards. AddiƟonally, the earning capacity of minoriƟes is growing exponenƟally, with the combined purchasing power of minoriƟes expected to approach $3 trillion by 2040. Women are also conƟnuing to dominate the workforce at a 58% labor parƟcipaƟon rate in 2010. The purchasing power of women is esƟmated currently at $7 trillion, while 85% of purchase decisions over consumer goods are said to be made by women. Minority-owned businesses are conƟnuing to grow as well, with a 60% growth in African-Amercian owned businesses from 2002 to 2007. In the U.S. today, Asians own nearly 1.5 million businesses. The United States is becoming bigger, older, and more diverse, and companies need to ensure that they are posiƟoned to capitalize on these trends. Supplier diversity is 2011 U.S. Workforce Breakdown - DOL/BLS a crucial way to achieve this goal both in terms of consumers and suppliers. A well-managed supplier diversity program provides businesses insights into the minority consumers’ purchasing paƩerns and preferences along with helping to boost the company profile and image among customers. Many minority-owned businesses are small to medium enterprises, and thus offer disƟnct advantages in their role as suppliers, such as compeƟƟve pricing, greater flexibility, and higher innovaƟon. Diversifying the supply chain offers companies a larger pool of suppliers, leading to an opportunity to harness skills and talent. Many government organizaƟons are increasing their own pracƟce of supplier diversity, and demanding the same from companies in terms of compliance requirements. Developing and implemenƟng a supplier diversity management program will help your company be poised to take White Black Hispanic “ Asian “ advantage of the opportuniƟes from an increasingly diverse marketplace, and allow for meeƟng diversity needs and goals. 65% of respondents sy that supplier diversity is either a mid or high level priority ~Purchasing. com poll, August 2005

As DCR’s core competency is not in staffing, this accomplishment was achieved by forging a strong network of diversity suppliers and working with veterans’ career centers and online job portals. In addiƟon to the veterans sought by the client to fill their criƟcal roles, we recruited two veterans to serve as DCR onsite program managers. DCR prides itself in its ability to aƩract and retain a diverse workforce that is reflecƟve of the needs of our clients and the marketplace at large.
