What is Stress?
Stress is what we feel in
situations we find difficult,
challenging or even frightening. In
short stress is about feeling that
we can’t cope with a situation.
.....it is your body way of responding
to any kind of demand. It can be
caused by both good or bad
experiences.

Emotional-such as a relationship problem
Social-such as peer pressure causing you to
feel you can’t cope with what your group is
doing
Life Crisis-such as death in the family or loss of
a job
Economic-caused by not having enough money
for what you need
Personality Based-some people are far more
prone to stress than others
Environmental-caused by factors like extreme
weather conditions or pollution
Physical-caused by physical harm, such as
sexual abuse or violence

Short-term Effects:
Faster breathing
Faster heart rate
Dry Mouth
Sweaty palms
Tension in Neck and
Shoulders
Nausea
Constipation and
diarrhoea
Long-term Effects:
High Blood Pressure

Nervous indigestion

What causes stress is mental,
physical or emotional tension. This
is caused by demands being made
on you, that you feel unable to cope
with. These demands can come
from outside you or from within
you and if they are not balanced
out by your ability to cope, then
you experience stress
unexpectedly.

Body?
Stress has various effects on the
body which manifested in the form
of:
muscle tension and pain, chest
pain, fatigue, headaches, and
stomach problems.
