1. A public speaking
slideshow on my
experience with Amy
Cuddy’s “Your body
language shapes who you
are”. by Stephen Jones
2. Amy’s speech was about the effects of
how our body language has a very
significant impact on our minds and other
people.
3. Amy did a very good job capturing the
attention of the audience by directly
interacting with them. She first told them
she had a free give away to all of the
audience members if they would just
change their posture for two minutes
which pertains to the main point of the
presentation.
4. She maintained the engagement of the audience
throughout the speech by telling some very
compelling and sentimental stories about her life
that truly did inspire sympathy within me as surely
it did with the audience.
5. In terms of dynamism I give her a 3. She seemed
a bit nervous to me. Also she started to cry
during one of her stories, as heart felt as it was
and even though she seemed to pull it off ok I
believe that crying when giving a presentation is
playing with fire in terms of dynamism. Another
area that I feel she could of improved on was her
breathing techniques, as they seemed to change
about a quarter of the way through the
presentation and it seemed to be a little too
noticeable to me.
6. I learned that eye contact is very important and from
watching Amy I could see that she made consistent eye
contact with the audience the entire duration of her
presentation. I also noticed that she had good
confidence in her voice which to me is essential when
speaking in front of an audience. I also recognized that
she had the audience laughing from time to time with
the way she presented her slides which I thought was a
great technique. She had a very sympathetic story
incorporated into her presentation that was quite
compelling, also a great technique.
7. Advice I would like to share with the class is to practice
being aware of your body language and how it affects
not only others but how it affects yourself. Realize that
just by changing the posture of how you are standing or
sitting can vastly change the outcome of a given
situation. I also advise them to watch the presentation
given by Amy Cuddy because it can help you with public
speaking.
8. I feel as though both Sir Ken Robinson and Amy Cuddy
did an extremely good job. Sir Robinson seemed to use
jokes as a way to keep the audience involved. Amy used
more of a sincere true life story approach. Sir
Robinson didn’t use quite as much body language as
Amy exhibited. Amy lost her composure when telling
her story which is a no no when giving a speech. Sir
Robert held his composure through out his
presentation.
