3. Archiving strategy
• The Zarafa archiver can be used for two purposes:
– Reducing storage on primary server and eliminating pst files
– Keep history on all incoming and outgoing emails
• Choose the strategy before further deploying the Zarafa Archiver

4. Creating of archiver store
• Every user who will use the Zarafa Archiver need to be coupled to
an archive mailbox.
• Multiple users can be coupled to one archive mailbox or every user
can get a own archive mailbox
• Create a new non-active user called archive with the zarafa-admin
tool

5. Couple user to archive mailbox
• Couple the user John to the archive mailbox with the zarafa-archiver
command
• Please use the --no-folder option when coupling every user to a
individual archive mailbox
• By default the user will have read-only permissions on his archive!
Please use the -w option to give an user “Owner” permissions on his
archive store.

6. Configure archive steps
• Open /etc/zarafa/archiver.cfg to enable the different archive stages
and configure the time setting
• Set the loglevel to 6 for later debugging
• Normally configure the SSL certificates if setup contains multiple
server nodes. Not necessary in this lab.

7. Archive run
• Execute the Zarafa-archiver for user john
• Check the logfile for the different archive stages

8. Permissions synchronisation
• By default a user has read-only permissions on his archive mailbox
• With the za-aclsync tool permissions set on the primary mailbox can
be synchronised to the archive mailbox

9. Test permissions sync
• Give mary secretary permissions on the Inbox of John
• Run the za-aclsync tool
• Check in the archive mailbox if the permissions are correctly
synchronised

10. Perform automatic archive runs
• To run the Zarafa-Archiver every night or week, set a cronjob to
perform this task

11. Where to get it?
• The Zarafa-Archiver can be downloaded from the Zarafa Portal only
at the moment
• To use the Archiver an additional subscription is required. This
subscription allows you to have a cluster with a Zarafa-server and
an archive node
