What is Distribution?
Distribution is when you are distributing something to people and getting it spread
around. So people distribute their movies and they want it to get around to as
many people as possible. You can pay o have things distributed or you can do get it
distributed for free both can be affective.
Example of Distribution companies
Some examples of distribution companies include: 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate
Universal, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures and many others.
3. Companies that would distribute your
film?
In my opinion quite a lot of distribution companies would want to
distribute our film. I think a company that would do it would be
paramount pictures. One of the reasons I think that they would do it
would be the fact that they have been the distributer to other
psychological thrillers and they had been successful. So due to this they
would have reinsurance that movies in this genre do well. Another
reason that they would distribute due to the fact that it has such a
large target audience many people would watch it which would give
the film a high gross and this would be good for them. It would be good
as they would make profit from the money that they invested to
distribute the film.
4. Where will your film be shown?
We will aim for our movie to be shown in as many different places as
possible as we want it to get out to as many as people as we can. We
feel our film has a much wider appeal than just the United Kingdom.
We think due to its gripping storyline that many people would enjoy it.
Also due to the fact one of the films we took inspiration from (The Black
Swan) was successful in a number of different countries around the
world ours will to. Also due to the main characters are a teenage we
think that many people would want enjoy to watch it. As we think the
teenagers would relate to it and the adults would also relate to it in
some ways.
5. How would you market your film?
There are many different ways that we would market our film. One of
the main ways that we would do it is by creating a trailer and attempt
to get it shown on TV. But we would also put it on YouTube that way
people would be able to watch it whenever they wanted. Another way
that we would market it would be on paper types of Media. This would
include things such as billboards and posters. These would be the main
ways that we would market our film but we would use some other
methods as well as these. Some of the other ways that we would do it
would be things such as film festivals, creating social media accounts
and competitions.

Self distribution is when you out on your own and try to get the word of
your film out and make people aware of it. This is something that is
quite common with independent films, when the filmmakers go round
telling people about their film. A problem with self distribution is that it
is very difficult to and is very time consuming and sometimes you may
not even get anyone who is interested. However unless you are a well
known filmmaker, self distribution is the only possible method to get
word of your film out to audiences. Self distribution usually takes place
at film festivals this can be bad for some filmmakers as their target
audiences may not attend film festivals.
