3. What’s It All About:
Whether it’s typed as Google+ or Google Plus, it’s one of the newer
social networks created by the gods of Google and started on June 28th,
2011.
4. How It All Began…
Google+ is actually not the first but fourth-generation social network
made by Google. Before there was Orkut (2004), Google Friends Connect
(2008), and Google Buzz (2010); each having a little bit of it inside
Google+. Google+’s release on June 28, 2011 started as a beta phase, by
way of invitation only. Eventually, invitation only was dropped due to
high volume of account sign-ups and on September 20, 2011, Google+
was opened to everyone 18 years of age or older without the need for an
invitation.
5. What The
Critics Say:
When Google+ first came
out, many online users
thought it was Google’s
way of finally competing
with Facebook.
Fun Fact: Mark Zuckerberg
ironically was the most
followed user on Google+
on July 7, 2011, he was
estimated to have a
100,000 followers by July
14th. And then there was
Tom from MySpace…

7. Cool Stuff On Google+
Circles: Google+ presents a different
way of adding people, through circles.
You can put someone into one of your
“circles” by drag-and-drop interface.
You can also modify your circles to
your desire (i.e. family, friends, etc.)
and the names in these circles will only
be seen by you.
Hangouts: You can do group video
chat that allows up to 10 people to
video chat at the same time. As of
September 20, 2011 you can now also
do “Mobile Hangouts” through phones
that have Android 2.3+ and have front-
facing cameras. This feature would
also allow people to share documents
with others.
8. PRIVACY!!!
Compared to Facebook, the
beauty of Google+ is that it
allows users to customize
their privacy settings, this
includes circles as well. That
means you can allow certain
friends to see particular parts
of your information and make
them see your profile to your
own comfort level. So while it
was estimated that Mark
Zuckerberg would have
100,000 followers at some
point, in honest truth we just
don’t know who is possibly in
his circles.
