3. Introduction:
• A motivating way to help people with
hemiparesis complete therapeutic exercise at
home
• Explore how one person with hemiparesis
integrated game-based therapy into her life
• The Potential utility of longer-term home-based
use of therapeutic games

4. Participants:
• A 62 year-old female with hemiparesis
• Marie’s stroke affected her speech, memory,
ability to write, and resulting in left
hemiparesis(her non-dominant side)
• Marie played stroke rehabilitation games daily
for six weeks

• Three motion based video games:
 Helicopter
 Pong
 Baseball Catch
• Hardware:
 A laptop computer with game software preloaded
 Two Wii remotes
 A web camera

reported being able to:
 Move objects around on a counter
 Catch a falling toothbrush
 Catch herself against a wall
 Adjust the bedcovers
 Hold a can opener at an angle for washing
 Hold dishes in plane while she washed them
 Grasp a towel and dry her hands

10. Conclusion and Future Work:
• Though playing motion based rehabilitation
games ,Marie gained some basic motion
• Identify both promising directions for developing
motivating rehabilitation games and potential
challenges
• Overcome to ensure the effectiveness of the
use of games systems for stroke rehabilitation
