An argument can also be a predication, a real
or potential fact, and such as an argument is
expressed as a clause – that is, a sentence
that is embedded in another sentence. In
other words, we can make statements and
ask questions about facts.
For example, these sentences
 They KNOW (that) I opened the letter
 Do you WANT me to open the letter
 She WATCHED me opening the letter
 Are you SURPRISED at my opening the letter?
The clause depends on the predicate ( verb or
adjectives) that it accompanies. The sructure of
sentences may also lead to different possible
interpretations, and such syntactic ambiguity.
Predicates that have embedded sentences as a theme
include the following those that express:
a) Knowledge or ignorance of a possible fact
eg: - Ivan knows that we are here.
- I doubt if the game will start on time.
b) An attitude or orientation toward a fact as
possible fact.
eg : -Jean is disapointed (that) you can not
join us.
FULL STATEMENT CLAUSES
is introduced by the meaningless word that, which
may or may not be present.
