Question 4
1. 4.How did you use new
media technologies in
the construction and
research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. Nikon
D810
The Nikon D810 was my camera of choice for filming my music video.
There were a number of reasons for this choice with the first being
because of its lens capabilities. The Nikon D810 has multiple lenses
that can be taken off and put on, with a few which are amazing for
retaining colour and purity of the image even under low light conditions.
I knew that this was going to be of great use to me and therefore saw it
fit to use this camera. Another reason is because of its compatibility
with filming equipment which I knew I would need to use. AUB
Bournemouth were kind enough to lend me 90% of the gear I used for
my music video and therefore I was able to use such equipment as
camera rigs, tripods and lighting. All of these paired well with the Nikon
D810 and I was certain that the image would be perfect for my genre of
R&B.
3. Manfrotto
MK290LTA
Tripod
This tripod was another piece of gear that lent to me by
AUB Bournemouth and was crucial in the making of my
music video. It is a light weight and incredibly versatile in
its capabilities as a tripod. It allowed me to get perfectly
still image on whatever service I chose to shoot on. This
helped greatly when trying to get perfectly still shots in
angles that otherwise wouldn't’t have been possible. It
paired extremely well with the Nikon D810 and despite
being light was more than capable of holding the heavy
Nikon D810 body and lens throughout shooting.
4. Lightin
gLighting was huge part to my music
video as I was keen to have a wide
range of lighting throughout my video.
The most important of these was the
shot of my actress smoking. The light
cast on her face was initially harsh
however through the use of a reflector
we were able to reflect the light on to her
to give a much softer look. All of the
lights were lent to me from AUB and so I
was able to use lighting equipment that
was extremely expensive to get a very
professional look that I otherwise
wouldn't’t have been able to obtain.
5. Premiere Pro
CCI complete all of my editing using Premiere Pro CC. I have used this
software for 5 years and feel my understanding of the software is immense
and therefore I was completely comfortable using it to give me the best final
output possible. I have the whole creative cloud so by using this software it
is perfectly integrated with other Adobe products such as after effects which
I also used throughout. The colour grading and image adjustments on this
software allowed to create a professional looking image which fit perfectly
with the genre of my song. Other aspects of the software such as the layout
and simplicity of the software helped me to easily navigate the software and
organise my work accordingly. I was keen to show my understanding of
Premiere through my video and so took full advantage of some of the more
technical aspects that would only be apparent to those who understand the
difficulty of achieving the look I did using Premiere.
6. Magic
Bullet
LooksMagic Bullet Looks is an external plug in
for Premiere Pro CC and After Effects
CC. This plug in allowed me to get a
highly cinematic look and also helped to
conquer my initial problem of noise grain
within my footage. This software is highly
complicated and takes a lot to
understand and execute properly
however, I have been using this plug in
for about 2 years and so I was more than
comfortable to use it to help me to
achieve the final look that I had wanted
from the beginning of the project.
7. After Effects
After Effects was crucial to the success of my video after the feedback
from the class which I had received. The feedback allowed people to
give me advice on improvements I could make and one in particular
stood out to me as being important. Noise grain reduction. I was able to
do this through the use After effects which through manipulation and
aspects of the software you are able to give the image a cinematic and
reduced noise look. This really helped to progress my music video from
amateur to professional. After making this adjustment the feedback was
100% positive and people felt that the simple change that After Effects
allowed me to do was the making of the video and tied the whole music
video together.
8. Blogg
erBlogger is at the core of my whole
course and helped me keep everything
together and organised. It is crucial for
me to have this up to date and organised
well so that when viewing it people will
connect with my work on a whole new
level. I am very please with how my
blogger is looking and that the work on it
is always of a high standard and best
represents my work properly. Without
blogger it would be nearly impossible to
present my work in a manner that also
best represents me as a person and
budding film maker.
9. Microsoft
PowerPoint, Word
and OutlookMicrosoft word, PowerPoint and outlook have all helped in communication and work
throughout this years course and before. Word I used most commonly when planning my
music video in order to make notes when looking online about locations, theories and
other key knowledge I would need to know when executing my Music Video. This
became very helpful when on set and knowing what I needed to do. PowerPoint has been
helpful before and after filming in order to lay out work in a way I can present what I will
be doing in a much less boring way than on a word document. This helps to show of a
more creative sider to my personality and therefore represents me as a person before
and after my music video. Outlook was one of the most important of the Microsoft
features that I used in my preparation before and after filming. Outlook allowed me to
communicate with peers, teachers and my self while I was working on my video and
before. It allowed me to email large documents to my self when changing between my
MacBook and school computer. This therefore was probably one the most important
aspects of my whole project.
