As the narrator jumped off a building, they observed various people on each floor experiencing different problems - from domestic violence to unemployment to loneliness. By the time the narrator reached the bottom, they realized that while everyone has struggles, their own life was not as bad as they initially thought after seeing that others were also going through difficulties. The experience taught the narrator that one can overcome suicidal feelings by either reducing pain or increasing coping abilities, as suicide often occurs when pain outweighs one's capacity to deal with hardship.

- 14. after all they had seen, they came to realize that their lives are not that bad after all.
