This document summarizes three articles about new educational technologies:
1) A class at the University of Southern Mississippi uses webcams, Skype, and Bluetooth to allow students doing student teaching to attend lectures remotely. This allows them to keep their jobs while student teaching.

3. In the article an education class at the
University of Southern Mississippi, uses
webcams on laptops, a SKYPE
conferencing account, and Bluetooth
headsets to communicate with soon to
be teachers, whom are doing their
student teaching/teacher’s aide time.
The article follows one student in
particular.
4. Marie Ann Fell, a senior at USM had this to
say about the new technology: quot;I'm able to
work full time and go to college, and to
able to get hands-on experience to see if
this is truly what I want to do with my life,“.
This technology allows students to keep
their jobs without having to go to lectures at
school because the professors can see
everything the student is doing with the
webcam, and can communicate instantly
via the Bluetooth headset.
5. This article discusses a new
educational technology called
“Virtual Desktops” according to the
article multiple users can share one
PC, and do all of their own stuff on the
virtual desktop without interfering with
the other students whom as also
sharing the same PC.
6. The article goes on to list quite a few
advantages of the virtual desktop that
could help several schools, especially
during the hard economic times. Some
of the advantages are: Cuts PC costs by
70%, Compatible with standard PC
technology, Drastically reduces IT
complexity, Slashes electrical
consumption by 90%. The only downfall is
it costs approximately $70 per seat.
7. The articles says that seven of the top ten school
districts in the United States have agreed to use this
new technology to cut costs, which they can then use
on the advancement of other services that need
assistance within the school as well. With these seven
school districts added that makes more than 1,500
school districts using the virtual desktop software, with
many more in negotiations to use it as well. To see a

8. In this article by Elisa Casey, the University
of Washington’s RIDE (Regional Initiative
for Dental Education) is discussed. The
dental professors at the school had been
working for 5 years to be able to reach
students in the rural, and under-served
areas of Washington, and help them with
the work in the dental school.
9. UWTV video engineer, Noah Pitzer said: “It’s
our job to raise the level of
videoconferencing within the classroom to
near-television standards by incorporating
multiple cameras, high-quality audio and
seamless transitions for the users. We hope
to lessen the barrier of technology so that
people feel more connected and forget
the distance.” This is good, so that the
student can focus more on the work, and
the lesson.
10. According to a lot of students and
administrators at the school this new
videoconferencing and distance
learning is working, and it is helping the
people in these rural and underserviced
areas get the dental work they’ve both
needed and had been lacking for so
long.
11. In conclusion there are a lot of new
technologies out there that are making
education easier, better, more efficient
and overall more enjoyable for both the
student and the teacher. The three I
mentioned here are not nearly all of
them, and I am sure there a thousands
more in the works that will change the
face of education forever, and I for one
am looking forward to it…a lot!
