3. Partimento:
A term used fairly frequently in the late 18th and early 19th century
to denote exercises in figured-bass playing,
not so much as accompaniments to a solo instrument
as self-contained pieces.
(The New Grove Dictionary of Music)
4. Ontstaan van de partimento-praktijk:
-eerste sporen: laatste kwart 17de eeuw
-belangrijkste traditie: Conservatorium Napels
-verhouding vraag/aanbod muziek

6. Vraagstelling: waar is improvisatie en harmonisatie verloren gegaan
als fundament van een geïntegreerde klavierpraktijk?
Een opmerkelijk citaat uit 1875:
… Erkel allowed the candidate to play a piece of his own choice.
Erkel then set a piece for sight-reading, and whoever could not play it fluently
was turned away. The ones who survived this ordeal were then subjected to
an improvisation test by Volkmann. He would play a few measures on the piano
several times; the candidate then had to repeat it from memory and improvise
a continuation. Successful candidates were enrolled as students.
The unsuccesful ones were sent on to Gyula Erkel and subjected to one last trial:
an unfigured bass, which he wrote on the blackboard, and which the student had
to harmonize at sight. The ones who failed were shown the door.

15. Stap 1: octaafregel stijgend gradueel opbouwen
Stap 2: octaafregel dalend opbouwen
-kan in twee stappen: 8-7-6-5 en dan 5-4-3-2-1
Stap 3: cadensen
Stap 4: diverse formules en “connectoren”
