PLEASE FOLLOW THE RUBRIC AS GUIDANCE As nurses, the CNO states that we must reflect
as a professional expectation. Reflecting is more than just thinking about thinking. It is an
intentional process of thinking, analyzing, and learning. Reflecting improves our ability to
critically think, empowers us as professionals and advocates, helps us to gain self-
awareness and provides for personal and professional growth. For our clients, reflection
means a commitment to improving quality of care, ensuring safety of care, and improving
client outcomes. Reflection occurs before, during, and after situations with the purpose of
developing greater understanding of the self and the situation so that future encounters
with the situation are informed from previous encounters (Wald & Reis, 2010). Reflective
writing is the purposeful and recursive contemplation of thoughts, feelings, and happenings
that pertain to significant practice experiences (Kennison, 2012). Reflective writing
requires one to reflect on a personal experience for the purpose of self-awareness and
professional growth (Kerr, 2010). To be committed to reflection, nurses must have: A belief
that there is no end point in learning about your practice A willingness to learn Motivation
to change Open-mindedness Courage to act For this essay, you must write from your lens as
an RPN transitioning on the journey to RN practice. The application of scholarly evidence is
used to critically analyze a health care issue or practice situation and must clearly support
your perspective. Your essay must integrate evidence-based nursing literature from the key
course concepts. Relevant CNO expectations of RN practice must be included. 1000 words,
