"A leader's intelligence has to have a strong emotional
component. He has to have high levels of self-awareness,
maturity and self-control. She must be able to withstand
the heat, handle setbacks and when those lucky
moments arise, enjoy success with equal parts of joy and
humility. No doubt emotional intelligence is more rare
than book smarts, but my experience says it is actually
more important in the making of a leader. You just can't
ignore it.”

Taking you and your career to the next level Unplug your career (how to) Accelerate your career* With the power of social and emotional intelligence*
Chuck moderator - questions Introduce Mike
Mike has helped hundreds of organizations and thousands of individuals use social and emotional intelligence to improve their careers, their relationships, and their life fulfillment. My credentials: - For 25 years i have been researching what makes people excel at their jobs and their careers I had an executive search firm, and realized that no one i knew who was hiring people had the slightest idea what made people successful, let alone how to assess them I began to study the field of competencies, the traits and behaviors that differentiate high performers In the early 90’s the science writer Daniel Goleman started interviewing some of the researchers in the competency field, and he brilliantly rebranded the concepts as emotional intelligence , which he published in 1996. - The research into this field led me to assessing CEO’s and other senior managers, installing hiring and performance management systems in companies all over the world, being an executive coach to many CEO’s, leading people in their individual transformation, and starting and running the Wright Graduate Institute for the Realization of Human Potential. NEXT: SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE MATTERS

1 OF 1 You can see how social and emotional intelligence makes a difference to career success and fulfillment Personal power and influence The ability to get work done for self and through others Career success and fulfillment STORY: Bruce Zivian story: Bruce is a high-powered attorney dealing with M&A. Brought in another John, another law partner in their firm, to deal with other issues for a client. A junior associate working under this partner sent an email to the client leaving out several key words that were important. In a phone call with Bruce and John, the client was furious and screaming on the phone. The client then hung up on them in anger. After the call, Bruce read the email in question, and composed an email to his partner John that recommended the following response: “ I read the email, and I would be as angry and upset as you are.” 2) Apologize 3) Will never happen again 4) I will read every communication to you before it goes out; 5) If you have any problem, let me know any way you want to for any reason. Do not call the client – he clearly does not want to talk with us now. Partner’s response: he called the client and left a message that said, “I hear you are still upset. Give me a call.” Bruce told me that they will likely lose the client as a result of his partner’s response.
1 OF 1 There are clearly degrees of Social & Emotional Intelligence. Why can some people grab the hearts and minds of a wide range of people from a wide range of backgrounds, and other people can only establish limited rapport with others? There are degrees of social & emotional intelligence. No one is done learning social emotional intelligence. It’s been demonstrated that social emotional intelligence can be improved. If you want to make yourself more effective and have a more fulfilling life, develop your own social emotional intelligence. If you want to really feel fulfilled and satisfied, help other people develop theirs, whether you’re in a manufacturing industry, a service industry, whether you’re an educator, a public servant of any kind, no matter what you do, you have opportunities as you interact with other people to help them enhance their social & emotional intelligence. That’s a key part of what you will learn with a Master’s degree in transformational leadership and coaching.
Two hunters from New Jersey are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn’t seem to be breathing. The other whips out his mobile phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps out to the operator: “My friend is dead. What can I do?” The operator in a calm soothing voice says, “Just take it easy. First let’s make sure he’s dead.” There is a silence, then a shot is heard. The guy’s voice comes back on the line. He says, “OK, now what?” [Pause…] This is a joke… Context: Humor is a tool of emotional intelligence. Puts people at ease. Makes a point. Changes perspective. Can both up-regulate and down-regulate. WHAT IS UP-REGULATE? ACTIVATE THE SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM DOWN-REGULATE: ACTIVATE THE PARASYMPTHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
1 OF 3 Transformation is the quest to realize your potential in all areas of life. To journey courageously into the unknown of your potential self. It involves a process of transforming your established ways of viewing yourself and others so that you can see yourself more clearly.
2 OF 3 AMBER, HOW HAVE YOU TRANSFORMED?
3 OF 3 In the words of Jack Mezirow, founder of the concept of transformative learning: Transformative learning refers to the process by which we transform our taken-for-granted perspectives, habits of mind, and mind-sets, to make them more inclusive, discriminating, open, emotionally capable of change, and reflective, so that they may generate beliefs and opinions that will prove more true or justified to guide action. . . So that we gain greater control over our lives as socially responsible, clear-thinking decision makers. POLL : I understand that transforming will : a) Change how I see myself in the world; b) Be a quick and easy process; c) Have direct benefits to many aspects of my life; or d) Both a and c
1 OF 2 Why am I talking about this? Obviously I have a vested interested in this? We care about your applying this in your life. We want you to have experiences that infuse you with At the W.G.I. we have a totally cool type of education. We have a depth of experiential learning and practice in S&EI that may be unmatched. We are talking about the abstractions that you learn in this program that apply to your daily and professional life, for greater meaning, satisfaction, and effectiveness. In the certificate and master’s programs, you will actually be learning the theoretical and methodological foundations behind this. So that if you’re a business person who simply wants to be better leader, you will learn to understand human development in such a way that you will help your people function at their best as you learn to be a transformational leader. Some of the business people will also want to learn to coach because more and more corporations are offering coaching training to their leaders as they understand that social emotional intelligence is central to the success of the company and each staff member in the company. Some of you may even want to start careers as professional coaches.
2 OF 2 To understand the experiential aspect of this, you must attend the first part of the program, our introductory weekend training in S&EI. In a few minutes I will tell you more about it, but I want you to know now that just by being a part of this webinar, you will gain complimentary admission to this introduction. In this training, you will learn core processes by which human being will fulfill their potential. And in your masters studies, you will actually be learning the theoretical and methodological foundations behind this. And it is proven that successful leaders bring out the best in their people. This is how successful companies like GE and Pepsi have kept their leading positions for decades. You will have a depth of training that is unparallel in educational circles.

LET’S TALK ABOUT OUR STUDENTS AND WHAT THEY SAY: As a result of my exposure to the Wright Transformational Learning model, I have profoundly deepened my understanding of the why's behind what I practice. I have grown significantly as a person, increasing the joy, meaning, and satisfaction I experience moment by moment in my life. I am a more potent leader, supporting others to overcome challenges and live lives of meaning and purpose. My practice has grown so much we needed to take on new office space, and we already need more space again. My staff has matured significantly, and they are successfully growing their own private practices. - An entrepreneur running a counseling business. I have doubled my income and have a new job that is the job of my dreams. - An interior designer As I described what I have been learning and applying to headhunters, I have been invited to consider one opportunity after another. A student running a manufacturing company I am taking increasing responsibility and am increasingly recognized as a national leader in early childhood education - A Montessori consultant, administrator, and teacher

MD’s feel that their contact with patience’s is much more powerful and effective.
Like WGI students, you may have reached a point where you are calling into question some of the basic beliefs and assumptions around which you have built your career, your life and your personal identity. As a lifelong learner, you likely are continually engaged in a process of re-examination of those beliefs and assumptions. You probably have developed some degree of awareness of a gap that exists between the life and career you are currently living and the life and career you want to live—even if you cannot fully articulate all that this entails. You may want more career, relationship, or social success. You may recognize that there is a difference between the person you are presenting to the world and the more authentic person you yearn to be. The educational process at WGI is determined by your personal journey of self-knowledge and realization of potential. It leads you to increasingly authentic and powerful ways of being, knowing, and creative self-expression. And these lead to greater career success no matter what your profession. EXAMPLES OF STUDENTS: Natalie Wing – interior designer, doubled income Ed Wing - #2 in a middle market company, doubled income, offers to run companies based on his social and emotional intelligence Lisa Sanden – becoming national leader in Montessori education Jon Laux – young, developing manager in a national insurance company Example: Lisa Sanden as a Montessori consultant Previously was intimidated when she was not wanted Now can go in and sooth herself and tell truth and gain respect and be valued
Work with you top take into your world or workplace in practice – so you don’t lose the skill WHAT WE DO IS OUTCOME-BASED. WE FOCUS ON WHAT MATTERS TO YOU. EXAMPLES Lisa Sanden – one of our students, is helping to transform Montessori education, and several other graduate students have been getting graduate credit for working on a project to identify the best practices of Montessori schools in enrolling new students Another student, JON LAUX, a master’s student, is excelling in his career with a Fortune 500 company, using the emotional and social intelligence skills he is developing to support executive leadership. He has learned that the more he listens to and responds to the needs of leaders, the better his career is.
Next steps: I would like to continue the discussion with you one-to-one. I will sit down with each of you to determine how you can take your career to the next level. I would love to talk with you more and talk about you, your career, and your dreams. And if you come in person, I will also give you a free in-person vision assessment regarding your S&EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.
