Mom Ok kids it’s almost time for bed. Start getting yourself ready!
(Dad is not distracted and continues to watch TV. Kids on the other hand are
moving, but slowly and complaining)
B Kid But I am not ready
Mom You don’t have to be ready buddy it’s just what you have to do.
G Kid Is tomorrow Christmas?
(Dad jumps at her and tickles her)
Dad Yes! I wonder what you’re going to get! Maybe traveling size tickling
hands to take wherever you are?
(Girl, laughing as she is being tickled)
G Kid No. They don’t have those.
(Dad and daughter stay playing around for a while. At the same time B Kid
starts up with mom again)
B Kid Yeah, tomorrow is Christmas and we haven’t even heard our story yet.
Mom Right. I see what you’re doing there. Alright kids, before you go to bed
your dad and I (as she looks at her husband signaling to get serious again) will
tell you the real story of Christmas. Does that sound like a deal?
2. 2
Kids (in unison) YES!
(They rush and plop themselves on a comfortable spot on the couch)
Mom Once upon a time, around 2000 years ago
G Kid Santa was born?
Mom No….?
(worried about the information that her daughter has gathered up to this
point)
(Dad laughs and calms mom and takes over story telling. Mom calms down.)
Dad(Scratching his head) Actually Santa was born a little later than that.
Santa was born over 1700 years ago.
(Mom looks at dad with a surprised look. Surprised that he is even continuing
this Santa conversation)
Dad The only thing is that he was called St. Nicholas back then. As we now
know him, St. Nicholas was a good man; a giving man. Legend states that
there was once a poor family of a father and three daughters. They were so
poor that the father was thinking about selling his daughters to slavery, just
so they could have food to eat. St. Nicholas heard about this and three nights
in a row he went and left money inside their house. And with that money the
oldest daughter was able to get married.
Part 2: Poor dad song

B kid His name is not St. Nicholas dad, it’s Santa Claus. I think we’re talking
about two different people.
(Dad laughs)
Dad His nickname later with time became Santa Claus. It was actually first
Sinter Klaas and then Santa Claus.
G kid Hey! Sometimes we don’t have a lot of food. Will you ever sell me to be
a slave, mommy?
(Mom surprised, giggles)
Mom No sweetie. People can’t do those things any more. And I would never
sell you, you are mine forever!
(Mom hugs girl playfully and they laugh together)
Mom So kids, one important thing to know is that St. Nicholas was a Christian
man. Do any of you know what that means?
B kid It means he believed in Jesus Christ!
Mom Exactly! He loved Jesus Christ, which is the real reason for why there is
Christmas.
G kid Wait a minute, Santa wasn’t just a man, dad! He has reindeers, elves
and he’s magical.
(Mom became a bit frustrated that she lost them again, Dad patted her to
calm her again)
Dad Well, there was this great writer of poetry named Clement Clark Moore
who wrote the poem “The Night before Christmas”. From that poem St.
Nicholas became the Santa Clause that we know today, with the jiggly belly,
the coming down the chimneys and the reindeers.

Mom So that was how Santa came about kids, now let’s learn about Jesus
and the true meaning of Christmas.
(Children relaxed and focused)
Mom Jesus was born over 2000 years ago. He was a gift from God to us, since
he was and still is His only child born into this world to give us redemption
and salvation.
G kid What is redemption?
(Mom excited that she finally has the children engaged in a conversation,
promptly answered)
Mom It means a price was paid so that you don’t have to pay it.
G kid Whoa! That was really nice! Does he also give us toys?
(Mom was rushing to answer and refocus when she was interrupted by
another question from her son)
B kid No silly! God gave us Jesus and Jesus tells Santa who is good and who is
bad and Santa delivers the toys!
G kid Whoa! What do you think I’ll get this year? Will it be a Barbie, Mom?
Will it?
5. 5
(Mom is startled; doesn’t know how to answer and the kids continue in
wonderment)
G kid So the real reason for Christmas is all the gifts! Right!?
B kid The gifts!
Kids Gifts and toys!!! Toys and gifts!!!
Part 6: Toys toys toys

minute Christmas intermission” and the dancers will get into place. Dancers will dance
around props!
Part 8:
Note: Act will be performed on full stage ( 5 actors/mics, 1 violin solo/self standing mic),
year 2 B.C backdrop.
Kids That was fun!
G kid Toys are the reason for Christmas! There are so many!
6. 6
(Mom was starting to get frustrated. Dad patted her on the back)
B kid That means God thinks we are good kids
(Dad laughing encourages kids to give their attention to their mother)
Dad You guys are great kids! But toys are not the real reason for Christmas.
Do you guys want to hear what is?
Kids (In unison) Yes!
(Mom, grateful, continues)
****Prerecorded****
Prerecording starts immediately after mom speaks the first sentence of the
story
Mom
(Mom reads what is in black, male voice reads what is in blue, female voice
reads what is in red)
About two thousand years ago, a woman named Mary lived in a town called
Nazareth, with Joseph, a man she was engaged to marry. One day, an angel
named Gabriel appeared to Mary and greeted her: Good morning! You are
highly favored! The Lord is with you. She was thoroughly shaken, wondering
what was behind a greeting like that. But the angel assured her, Mary, you
have nothing to fear. You have found favor with God. You will become
pregnant and give birth to a son. Call him Jesus. He will be great and be
called ‘Son of the Most High.’ The Lord God will give him the throne of his
father David; He will rule Jacob’s house forever. There will be no end to his
kingdom.” Mary said to the angel, “But how? since I am a virgin.” The angel
answered, The Holy Spirit will come on you, the power of the Most High
overshadow you; Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called Son of
God. And Mary said, Yes, I see it all now: I’m the Lord’s maid. Let it be with
me just as you say. Then the angel left her.
As Joseph was considering leaving Mary, God’s angel spoke to him in a
dream: “Joseph, son of David, don’t hesitate to take Mary as your wife
because God’s Holy Spirit has made her pregnant. She will bring a son to
birth; you are to name him Jesus because he will save his people from their
sins.” He did exactly what God’s angel commanded him and married Mary.
But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth.

Important dialogue note: Mom, say this as soon as a boy led them somewhere.
But they were given place in a stable.
Important dialogue note: Mom, say this as soon as the video ends.
She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in cloths and laid him
in a manger.
(Video ends and Mary looking at her child begins her song)
Part 9: Mary sings and violin special
(Mom continues telling the story)
****Prerecorded****
Mom In the hillside, shepherds were watching their sheep and an angel
appeared to them and they were terrified. The angel said to them “Do not to
be afraid because I bring you good news. Today in the town of David a Savior
has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you:
You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger” The shepherds
arrived at the stable where baby Jesus was wrapped lying in the manger and
they were filled with joy and so they knelt down and worshiped him. They
then spread the word concerning what had been told to them about this
child. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
8. 8
Far away Wise Men saw a new star rise; they knew that a new star meant
that a great ruler had been born. And they knew that it is written that a ruler
who will shepherd the people of Israel will come from Bethlehem in the land
of Judah. So they followed the star that they had seen until it stopped over
the place where the child was. Here they bowed down and worshiped Jesus
and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh; Gifts worthy of a king.
**A few seconds will be given for a paused framed nativity scene**
General stage notes (Prep for the end of the play during Part 10):
● Backdrop (1822)
● All props should be removed from “house right”
● Carolers should be mic-ed (4)
Part 10:
Note: Act is performed on house left (4 actors/mics), year 1822 backdrop.
B Kid So an angel came down to talk to people back then?
Mom Well this was a very important situation. A woman was going to give
birth to a king and it was the power of God that made it happen in her.
Dad It was a confusing situation for humans so God sent angels to clear
things up.
G Kid Jesus got gifts when he was born, mom! Is that why we get gifts?
Mom Yes! Because Jesus now lives in you and in all of us that believe in him
and have accepted him into our hearts.
G Kid I love Jesus! He was so cute and cuddly when he was a baby!
(Parents laugh)
Mom Yes he was! (Mom confirms and then continues) But do you know that
not all people grow up knowing about Jesus? They don’t know that Jesus
brings joy and freedom and unlike us, there are people that don’t even know
how to pray to him.
Kids (In unison, surprised look)
9. 9
G Kid How could you not know how to pray? (Baffled)
Dad Well, if you don’t know that cars ever were invented, you also don’t
know that if you get in one it could take you where you need to go to faster
than walking or running, right?
B Kid Right! So there’s people that don’t know that you can pray to Jesus and
to God.
Mom Right!
G Kid So what do they do when they need to talk to a nice king?
Mom Some keep it all inside and that makes them very sad and lonely.
Dad A long time ago your mom and I were like that. We didn’t know Jesus
and we were in a lot of pain and very lonely. Eventually a friend of mine told
me about Jesus and I took a chance and decided to believe in him and little
by little I got to know who he is.
G Kid Is that how you know Him so much now and you teach us all the time
about Him?
Dad (Laughs) Yes. That is how. (Confirms and then continues) Your mom
found out from her brother and she decided to believe and we met as we
were getting to know Him.
(Mom smiles at dad, walks to him and holds his hands as they begin their
song)
Part 11: Testimony song and impression dance
Note: Act is performed on full stage (2 actors/singers/mics, 2 dancers)
Part 12:
Note: Act is performed on house left (4 actors/mics)
G Kid I’m sorry you were sad mom. I’m glad you are happy now.
10. 10
Mom It’s ok baby. It was a different time in my life. Now I am happy! Now
that I have you, your brother, your dad and most importantly our Lord and
Savior, Jesus, in all of our lives.
B Kid Does knowing about Jesus change people?
Mom The love of Jesus can do many wondrous things and changing people
by entering their heart is just one of them.
Dad But people have to make the decision to let him in. You see it as simple
but it can be a difficult decision for some because people have to decide to
leave behind what they see as normal for a new way.
G Kid But it’s the good way, dad?
Mom It’s not that easy for adults sometimes.
B Kid I understand. It’s like having someone tell you to change to sleeping in
the daytime and go to school at night.
G Kid That’s crazy!
(They all laugh)
Mom (Directing it to her son) Yes honey, it’s something like that. (Directing it
to her daughter) And sweetie, you say it’s crazy because it’s difficult to
change your regular ways to new ways.
B Kid Changing your sleep time is not a good thing but loving Jesus is.
Dad Exactly! The difference is what positive things happen when you accept
Jesus Christ in your heart.
G Kid Is he in my heart, Dad? I pray to him but I don’t know if he’s there?
Dad Well there is only one way to make sure. Would you kids like to accept
Jesus Christ into your heart tonight before you go to bed?
G Kid Yes! That way when I pray tonight I could tell him that I let him in my
heart today!
Dad (Directing it to his son) And you?
