The #1 thing driving

- 3. Link Building the old easy way
• The easier the link is to attain the lower value it will have, usually
– Crappy directory sites on platforms like PHPLD + Adsense all over
• http://directorydude.com/
• Crappy vs. Quality – Look for site links
• Look for pagerank (but not too much)
• Age of domain
• Acceptance policy
• http://www.delicious.com/url - no saves - > low quality

- 4. Link Building the old easy way
• The easier the link is to attain the lower value it will have, usually
– Off theme reciprocal links – you link to me I link to you on my “links page 1 of 20” even
though our sites are about two totally different things
– Blog comments – even the do follow blogs (look up do follow blogs)
– Social media profiles - This could change in the future but it would be based on quality
(# of followers, # of views, # of embeds, # of comments, etc)
– Forum sig tags (Google is parsing up forum posts)
– Digg submissions / stumbleupon / delicious – without a promotion strategy or KILLER
content these will do NOTHING for you.
If you are deploying these kinds of tactics as part of your link building strategy and it is actually
working, it won’t always, so what are you doing to get the higher value links.

- 5. Link Building the NEW easy way
• There are still easy links to be had that actually have value

– People linking to 2 or more competitors but not linking to you
– Embeds of your content on sites that are not linking back
– Press releases through real wires or prleap.com
• Helps Google News ranking
• Syndication on other sites and linking back to you
– Guest Blog posts
– Blog directories
– High / mid quality general directories
– Niche social media sites

- 6. Sites mentioning your company but not linking to you
• Yahoo! Search for sites linking to several competitors (hint, reviews posts)
– linkdomain:retailmenot.com linkdomain:couponcabin.com linkdomain:fatwallet.com
• Yahoo! Search for sites linking to several competitors and not you :
– linkdomain:retailmenot.com linkdomain:couponcabin.com linkdomain:fatwallet.com -
linkdomain:yoursite.com
• Search for sites mentioning you name but not linking:
– quot;wil reynoldsquot; -linkdomain:thinkseer.com -linkdomain:seerinteractive.com
• Search for sites mentioning your company name but not linking:
– quot;SEER Interactivequot; -linkdomain:thinkseer.com -linkdomain:seerinteractive.com
• RSS!!!
– Advanced tip – pull in all new sites following these patterns and NOT linking over, then pull
their PR, inbound links (Yahoo Site Explorer API), and delicious tags (delicious API) to
determine value of missed links.

- 7. Twitter – idea sparks
We could do a while hour on link building with Twitter - My favorite thing lately has been
using it to spark ideas as I am searching with the greasemonkey script that runs a
search at twitter and displays it above my Google searches:

AUTHORITY sites like Yahoo, and AUTHORITY sites in your niche, building your theme.
• They RANK – ex. Kegerator (prleap.com)

- 18. Disrupting search is the multi source results page
There are times when a
video does a better job
answering a question, like
the one to the left.
How to replace a tire
How to tie a tie
How to lay hardwood floors
Pop culture icons

- 20. Google Universal and Yahoo! Glue
• The big question is HOW do you get on these pages??
• With a digital asset library and marketing alignment
• This type of search is in its infancy but is the biggest trend
• Start to prepare digital assets
• Today 1 Google search could bring back the following on the first page:
– News items (google news) - PR
– Pictures (google images) – Original Photos
– Video (Youtube + video sitemaps) - Video
– Products (google product search) – Google Base Feed
– Blogs (feedburner) -
– Books (book search) – write a book
– Web sites
• The question is what are you doing to give yourself a chance to show up?
• Youtube is getting more searchers than MSN, what are you doing to show up there?
20 © 2009 SEER Interactive | All Rights Reserved
- 21. What is coming??
More Google Dominance, marrying other data sources to its
ranking algorithm, and non websites ranking
• Google owns feedburner, eventually blog comments, and other factors should be used to
influence rankings
• Google owns Google reader, favorites, power users, recommendation engine, email blog post to
friend, all can be tracked and attributed
• Google owns Gmail – why wouldn’t they be scanning links in e-mails to see what’s getting a lot of
mentions
• Google parses forums well – how will this impact search?
