Bats live all over the world, roosting in trees, caves, attics and other man-made structures. They have evolved an echolocation system called sonar to hunt at night, and their diets consist of insects, fruits, nectar and small animals depending on the species. While some bats are threatened by predators like owls and snakes or disturbances to their habitats, they perform a valuable ecological role by consuming large amounts of insect pests and pollinating plants.
