2. Destiny’s Child
• This album, self titled, featured the two singles ‘No, no, no’ and ‘With me’. It
was released on February 17th, 19998.
• Beyonce’s last album with these was ‘Destiny Fulfilled’. This was released on
October 15th, 2004.
• Beyoncé was known as the most successful member of the group as she made
a huge success with her first solo album ‘Dangerously in Love’.
• The songs in this album all add up and eventually tell a story and it was about
the members finding themselves.
3. First album- ‘Dangerously in love’
• Beyoncé’s first album was released on June 24th, 2003 by Columbia Records and this was
‘Dangerously in love’.
• Songs in her first album:
‘Crazy in Love’ ,‘Baby Boy’ ,‘Me, myself and I’ ,‘Naughty Girl’
• The layout of this album is made so that Beyoncé is positioned in the centre of the album
cover. This emphasises the importance of Beyoncé and the attention the audience gives
her.
• They have also stated what the album is called, however Beyoncé's name over powers this
as she wants to be well known.
• The colour of the background could represent Beyoncé. This is because purple connotes
royalty, power and luxury and this is also emphasised with the use of diamantes on her
clothing. The white font also adds to Beyoncé's innocence and honesty.
• The photography used in this album shows the power Beyoncé has. This is through her
positioning and the way the lighting is used on this photo. The lighting emphasises her
beauty and important more.
4. Second Album- B’Day
• Beyonce’s second album ‘B'Day’ was released on August 6th, 2006.
• This album was released to coincide with her 25th birthday.
• Most of the lyrical in this music is ranges from 1970’s-1980’s funk to balladry to urban
contemporary elements such as hip hop and R&B. This is because she was inspired by
a role in a film so it led her to do the lyrics about feminism and empowerment.
• The layout of this album is made so that the shot of Beyoncé is a close up and placed
nearly in the centre of the album cover. This emphasises her importance and shows
the power that she has.
• The album name ‘B’Day’ is positioned underneath her name. This shows that her name
overpowers the album title and that she wants to be well known by the audience.
• The lighting on Beyonce’s body shows us her importance and it represents her
innocence. This is also helped through the baby blue on the background as blue
connotes innocence and purity.
• The photography used on this album cover emphasises Beyonce’s innocence as the
photo captures a lot of light on her face and it shows her purity.
5. Fourth Album- 4
• The album ‘4’ was released on June 24th, 2011 by Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia
Records.
• A major single was ‘Run the world (girls)’ and ‘Love on top’.
• Beyoncé was inspired to create an album with singles that involve blues and traditional
rhythm.
• The images on Beyonce’s album ‘4’ ensure the audience associate the images with the
album so it stands out. The image used of beyonce is a low angle and it uses high key
lighting. This helps to attract the audience’s attention. The low angle shot emphasises that
Beyonce has power and this can also show this from the back image where she is looking
over at the city. The image on the front overlaps the artists name so it connotes she is an
established artist. She is also been portrayed in a sexual way because of the clothing she is
wearing and her pose in this shot.
• The positioning of the album cover attracts the audience as her name is stretched out
across the top so it is easily recognisable as it stands out. The album name, ‘4’, however is
positioned in the bottom right hand corner. This is because the audience will be more
interested in the artists name and image, not the album name. This could also represent her
success as some artists aren’t this successful in the music industry.
6. Fifth Album- Beyoncé
• The album ‘Beyoncé’ was released on December 13th, 2013 by Parkwood Entertainment
and Columbia Records.
• This album was released as soon as it was ready and it was delivered to the audience
straight away. All the songs on the album had there own music videos and each video was
released at the same time, this meant the audience didn’t have to wait to listen to the
songs.
• The album cover is pretty ordinary but this contradicts with the release of the album. The
black background still shows Beyonce’s power and dominance and her name in a pale pink
emphasises her feminine side. Also her name is positioned in the centre so again, it shows
her importance.
7. Most Recent Album- Lemonade
• The album ‘Lemonade’ was released on 23rd April, 2016 by Parkwood
Entertainment and it was distributed through Columbia Records.
• This album includes genres such as pop, R&B, blues, hip hop, rock,
soul, funk, country, gospel and trap. The record was made available for
online streaming.
• The layout of this album is positioned so that Beyonce is made to be in
the centre of the album cover. Although we cannot see her face, she is
still positioned in the centre so it shows her importance still.
• Unlike her other albums, this album cover doesn’t have the artists
name on it. Only the album name ‘Lemonade’ in the centre. This is
because she is now globally recognised so she doesn’t need to
promote her name anymore.
• Also the colours represent Beyonce’s life as the background colour,
green, connotes emotionally healing and this could refer back to her
past relationships. 7
