Score/Points Descriptor
3 = 100 SCHOLAR - is involved in the quest for knowledge. He/she comes to
class on time having prepared for the material to be covered. He/she
initiates discussion, asks thoughtful and probing questions on a daily
basis to expand the depth and breadth of understanding. He/she is an
active listener giving full attention to the contributions of classmates.
2 = 89 STUDENT - seeks clarification of issues discussed in class. He/she
comes to class on time having prepared the material to be covered.
He/she occasionally initiates discussion and facilitates class discussion
by participating on a regular basis. He/she is a respectful listener,
giving classmates his/her attention while they participate in class
discussion.
1 = 79 CLASS MEMBER – is attentive and aware of issues raised in class.
He/she comes to class on time with the expected materials. He/she is
familiar with the material to be covered. He/she participates in class
discussion if called upon. He/she listens to class discussion.
0 = 69 ACCIDENTAL TOURIST - has a habit of daydreaming, often finding it
difficult to respond to a teacher's question because he/she is lost in
thought.[In the case of this type of student, as with the socialite/class
clown or disruptor, speak to this child in private regarding this grade.
Teacher call to parent may be necessary.]
-1 = 59 SOCIALITE / CLASS CLOWN - treats the classroom as an opportunity to
catch up on "what's happening" around town or to get attention at the
expense of disrupting the class. He/she regards "learning" as
secondary to advancing his/her personal interests. He/she occasionally
listens to class discussion, but is always ready to give his/her "two-
cents" opinion about what he/she is actually unprepared to discuss in
depth.
-1.5 = 55 DISRUPTOR - exhibits unhelpful behaviors. He/she is late and
unprepared for class on a regular basis. He/she presents a belief that
there is nothing more to be learned. His/her idea of a successful class
is provoking an emotional reaction from someone; it doesn't really
matter whether it is laughter, anger, or disgust.
