This is our marchitecture slide that shows Microsoft’s End-to-End Data Platform. Data Management Layer: Today, IT faces new challenges, there is an entirely new scale and scope to the kinds of data users are trying to gain insights from across both relational and non-relational sources. This growth is coming from: 1) Transactional growth in your business. 2) New data sources – image files, sensors driven 3) Moving business online – entirely new channels, with different pace at which the business needs to operate. To address this, Microsoft’s data management layer will be built for both traditional relational formats but also unstructured and semi-structured data found in “Big Data” as well as multi-dimensional and streaming. Microsoft offers a comprehensive list of solutions that address this.Relational DW offerings: SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2012 Fast Track, Parallel Data Warehouse, Dell QuickstartNon-relational offerings: HDInsight on Windows Azure, HDInsight on Windows ServerMulti-dimensional: Analysis ServicesStreaming: Stream InsightData Enrichment Layer: Once data is acquired, it requires enrichment to be able to discover and recommend, transform and clean, and share and govern. Discover and recommend: Today, it is hard enough to find the right dataset within an organization, let alone outside it. An Azure Lab, codenamed “Data Explorer”, enables customers to discover relevant datasets through automatic recommendations, e.g. if an analyst is building a customer segmentation model and can automatically recommend related datasets such as Dunn and Bradstreet with useful credit information. Another lab codenamed “Data Hub” enables an organization to create a private Data Market to facilitate discovery and sharing of data and analytical models. Transform and clean – Microsoft has traditionally offered data movement (ETL) tools found in Integration Services that date back many SQL editions. In SQL Server 2012, Microsoft also offers a revamped Master Data Services to give customers a central hub that ensures the integrity and consistency of data is constant across different applications . Brand new in SQL Server 2012 is Data Quality Services enable organizations to cleanse, match, standardize, and enrich data, so they can deliver trusted information for their warehouse.Insights Layer: More than just collecting data, a business analytics platform needs to provide insights to allow users make timely decisions. Microsoft uniquely ships major components of an integrated BI solution with our data warehousing offerings out-of-the-box. Overcoming the traditional BI challenges of low user adoption due to the complexity and costs, Microsoft SQL Server Data Warehousing also leverages Office and SharePoint to empower business users with familiar interfaces opening up complex data analysis to everyone. In Office 2013, Microsoft goes a step further by giving every end user the ability to visualize and analyze hundreds of millions of rows of data in-memory within the native Excel client (out-of-the-box).
