2. Charles Joseph Wojtyla was born on 18 May 1920 in the Polish town of Wadowice and was the youngest of three children of Karol Wojtyła and Emilia Kaczorowska. Family home of the Wojtyłas in Wadowice
3. His mother died when he was 8 years old. In 1932 his brother Edmund died. In the summer of 1938, Karol Wojtyła and his father left Wadowice and moved to Kraków, where he enrolled the Jagiellonian University in 1938. From 1940 Charles help Jews. In 1941 he joined a theatre. His father died in 1941.
4. Charles became a deacon in 1946 and next he was ordained a priest.
5. He went to Italy in 1946. In July 1948 he was working in the town Niegowić. From this moment he began to go on the trips. Wojtyła liked mountains very much.
6. In 1958 he became a bishop. He became an archbishop on 30.12.1963. Four years later he was a cardinal. In 1965 he beatified Faustyna Kowalska. After death of John Paul I he became a pope and he chose the name John Paul II on 16 October 1978 at 4.16 p.m.
7. John Paul II beatified 1337 people and canonized 51 people. When he was a pope 300000000 people became catholics.
