When companies, institutes and governments collaborate, data exchange is often viewed as a number of software interfaces. However, this is not the case. And what about the data itself? Efficient collaboration and real innovation can only be achieved when standards and protocols match. With this new universal data protocol for government issued transport, actual collaboration and innovation is being created, especially when multiple stakeholders depend on variations of the same data. Instead of having all these stakeholders develop, implement and document their own protocols, why not construct an interface and protocol that is standardized so that it can be used by different types of stakeholders? The protocol is based on leading industry standards, best-practices and universal guidelines and is issued by one scalable MaaS-platform. This MaaS-platform is responsible for all communication and distribution of data between connected parties. It uses a protocol that is clear, concise and ready to integrate in any Dutch municipality that wants to offer MaaS services to it's citizens. The parties are connected through a universal API that uses the latest techniques to ensure a secure, reliable and scalable, multi-faceted platform. In this presentation I would like to tell you how we built this ingenious, data-driven platform as well as the challenges we faced while preparing and building it.

- Welcome, nice to have you here! I’d like to tell you about a very practical big-data use-case that we implemented for one of our clients. This project was nominated for the Dutch Interactive Awards. Sadly we didn’t win but we did get a nomination prize and the food was good!
- I love this quote because it’s clear, concise and tells us exactly why big data is of use to us. CEO of HP from 1999 to 2005. First woman to lead a Top-20 company as ranked by Fortune Magazine. Oversaw largest technology sector merger in history, in which HP acquired Compaq. Transaction made HP the world's largest seller of personal computers.
- Started in the Medical Informatics field as a C++ developer where I worked for the Department of Medical Informatics at Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. Did my pre-masters in Medical Informatics where I found out that research wasn’t the way to go for me. I wanted to do something practical and build things. 5 years into my career I switched to web development when the Internet started to take off. I have held various positions and roles, for example Senior Developer, Lead Developer, Scrum Master.
- Hired by Way2Web in 2016 as IT Manager. Thanks to the new GDPR I can add a new title to my name! That of Security Officer. I started with a team of 3 developers and we now have 3 teams of 6 people with one product owner for each team.
- How do we distinguish ourselves?
- Has anybody here worked with or have knowledge of MaaS? I’d like to hear your experiences about this after the presentation! Global trend towards services instead of products. Netflix. MaaS is a shift away from personally-owned modes of transportation and towards mobility solutions that are consumed as a service. The consumer buys a service (mobility) instead of investing in transportation devices. By linking all elements that belong to multimodal transport – travelers, goods, vehicles, information and communication technology. There need to be benefits to companies and citizens in order for this to work.
- Dutch, Scandinavian, US governments try to provide alternatives to fit the needs of it’s citizens and society. No ‘pre-programmed’ solutions, always comes out of a need from society. Started in the Netherlands with the introduction of the OV Chipkaart as a means of paying for all kinds of public transport (not really Maas, only financial). 7 pilots waaronder 1 in Twente (Zuidas most well known and is the typical MaaS solution). Benefits: Decrease costs for the users, improve utilization of transit providers, reduce congestion. Challenges: adoption, insecurity for transporation companies: will it be used?
- There are people for which mobility is not a matter of course, this is where government issued transport comes in. There are a number of target groups where municipalities are required, by dutch law, to assist it’s citizens. One example of this is student transport where busses are hired to pick-up students to and from schools. Niet per se met regiotaxi (zwaar gesubsidieerd). Grootste stap is het plannen van een reis met publiek vervoer.
- Another example is to enable citizens with mental disabilities to participate in society and live their life to the fullest. Often financed by insurers.
- A last example of a target group are citizens with a disability (for example a visual or auditory impairment). To enable them to be part of our society and live their life to the fullest.
- Vitence contacted us at the end of 2017 for a proof-of-concept. Existing platform but no automation. For the region of Twente and Sud-West Fryslan (2500 km2 and population of 800 000 people) Traffic consultancy, research and support for the Dutch government (municipalities).

- Data was not consistent. Mistakes had to be corrected. High costs due to extra. Not GDPR compliant. No insight, no control.
- Discussed solutions with all external parties during a period of around 3 months. Came up with a workflow. Explain workflow.
- Industry standards for security: Oauth 2.0 for authentication and all connections are made over a TLS 1.2 connection.
- Average distance of a ride by age category. Average distance of a ride by municipality.
- Arrival times of transport vehicles when picking up travelers. Number of rides booked based on departure and arrival times. Average number of rides per day and hour.
- Average time for rides by municipality and month. Total average time for rides by month. Total average distance for rides by month. Trends.
- Number of unique locations per month. Average distance of a ride per month.
- Types of fuel used by transport vehicles. Age of vehicles used. Emission.
- Number of travelers in relation to the cost per month.
- Thanks to MaasHub thousands of citizens are transported from a to b on a daily basis. Real-time insight and control. SLAs with transport company to ensure high quality service that can be measured. Betrouwbaar platform, waarmee alle dienstverleners en toeleveranciers hun dienstverlening op de juiste manier kunnen uitvoeren. Way2Web and Vitence are not part of the operation, we just supply the platform and service. Client has complete control of the data and costs. Live in april 2019.
