Geest and marsh are especially found in
the north of Germany
While geest is very arid, bald and low in
nutrient, marshland is nutrient-rich and
rather humid
9. Oak Tr ees
Oak trees are usually seen in forests
They can grow up to be 50 m high and
live for about 1200 years
Its stock can be 3m thick
It blooms from April to October, its fruit is
the acorn
11. Daisies and Dandelions
Meadows and fields in Germany are usually
full of Dandelions and Daisies
The stalk of a Dandelion can be about 30 cm
long and later the Dandelion becomes the
so-called „blowball“ and the wind carries its
seeds across the meadows
Daisies are smaller and at night they close
their bloom
Daisies bloom in spring and summer,
Dandelions usually in April and May

"Verden" is very similar to the word for
"Horses" in German (Pferde)
Verden is considered as an "equestrian town„
big presence of horse breeding and equestrian
sports
The German Horse Museum is situated right in
the town center
"500 Horseshoes“ project – the names of
sponsors and famous equestrians of our town
were each branded into a horseshoe, which
were set into the pavement.

place in Verden for the 14th
time this year.

18. Little Owls
The Little Owl breeds near the Aller and Weser
rivers, often close to farm-steads, grassland
and fruit trees
It hunts mice, insects and earthworms
Reasons for the population decline of Little
Owls were mostly the loss of breeding burrows
and destruction of green areas
Nature conversation projects set up 120 new
nest holes, planted 350 fruit trees and the
project will be continued for a few more years
more than eleven new breeding pairs have
been counted ever since the project has been
started

are very common in Verden
since 2003 there is a nursing ward for sick,
hurt and weak storks
storks are being returned to the wild in late
summer
many storks come to breed in the valleys of
the Aller and Weser river
station is accessible to everyone
22. Aller river
the lower part of the Aller runs through our town
later it discharges into the Weser river
is a total of 263 km long
one of Germany's largest rivers
one of the most untouched rivers
federal waterway (for boats of waterway class II (length
x width: 58 m x 9.50 m)
flows through lots of meadows, forests and little
villages
a place of rest and recovery because of low-impact
tourism

they keep clean and renaturalize lots of places and
areas in Verden and all over the country
that‘s why there's such large variety of animals and
flowers
they give tips to the population on how to treat the
nature surrounding them
the city of Verden itself declares that the protection
of nature and environment is an important task
Of the 3000 kinds of flowers in our district, that we
know of, only half of them are not in danger of
dissapearing (2011)
