Year 12 English In 2011 we’ll be helping you to gain University Entrance Literacy. You will be aiming for 4 credits in Reading and 4 Credits in Writing throughout your course.

Intermediate ESOL Aim -Improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English to help mainstream subjects.  -Work towards Level 1 Literacy Topics Reading for information and instructions. Write information texts and recounts. Wide reading. Give a presentation to an audience. Assessments -ESOL unit standards (Levels1 and 2) English unit/achievement standards (Level 1) -Speech New Zealand OCESOL (Oral Communication in English for Speakers of Other Languages) -City and Guilds International ESOL exam -ESOL exam (school) *** You will do work and assessments at your level.  We understand that students of the same age can be at differing English levels.  Hours of ESOL depend on your level of English.

Year 12 Mathematics In Year 12 Mathematics is compulsory.  The course you will be in will depend on your Year 11 results. There are 3 courses in Year 12. Year 12 Maths study algebra, functions and probability. Assessment is mostly external achievement standards with two internal Achievement standards Year 12 Matucourse is similar but more assessment is internal assessed and there are only three external standards and less algebra Year 12 Matnlook at number, statistics and geometry. This course is all internally assessed.
Mathematics is the study of patterns and is a required skill for many career choices. See Ms Chapman, Miss Martin, Mr Adams, Mrs Geddes, Miss Spence for further information
Year 12 Biology Reasons students take this subject: ,[object Object]
They want a career health including nursing
They want excellent general knowledge that allows them to be able to take part in society as adults, parents and their chosen career path,[object Object]
Year 12 Chemistry 	Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, properties and reactions of matter. Investigate precipitation reactions Learn how to perform a titration, Link the structure and bonding of substances to their properties,  Find out what organic substances really are,  Delve into the world of acids, bases and equilibrium reactions,  Discover just what electrons are up to during a redox reaction. Get reactive in Year 12 Chemistry!
Aspirin Assessment is 2/3 external and 1/3 internal.  The course includes practical work, problem solving and describing, explaining and discussing chemical ideas. Chemistry is the essential science for almost all scientific careers including health sciences. See Mrs Everett or Dr Phillips for further information
Year 12 Physics We do: Problem solving Physics of Flight Find out how things work Practical work We cover the basics of: Motion Energy Light Waves Electricity Radioactivity
Why Should You Do This ? If you are interested in how things work, just want a bit more Science, or are planning on doing Health Sciences, Engineering or Architecture then  you should consider this course.  It works well with Mathematics, Chemistry and Computing.
Year 12 Human Biology 	An Internally Assessed Unit Standard Course Based on a Mix of Unit Standards from Level 1 and Level 2. Topics range from catch up level 1 Standards in Human Organ function Genetic change Applied Biology To Level 2 Standards in Cell Biology Using a microscope
Human Biology provides an opportunity to gain a limited number of level 2 credits. Most of the standards are at level one. Human Biology does not lead onto any year 13 Science courses. See Dr Phillips for further information

Year 12 Art Year 12 Art involves students exploring a given theme in both sculptural and painting works to expand their understanding of those disciplines and create original works from these studies. The year concludes with the creation of a folio presentation which can be in either sculpture or painting.
Internal Assessment Sculptural ideas, development and practice.	 6 credits. Painting ideas, development and practice.	 6 credits. External Assessment   Folio presentation 			12 credits. Successful completion of level 1 Art is desirable. Any queries please see Mr Otley for further information.
Year 12 Photography Internal Achievement Standards ,[object Object],   Students research and analyse forms of     multiple image construction and apply     selected techniques to create their own     photographic art works.    6 Credits ,[object Object],   Students research and analyse forms of photo-    montage and learn specific Photoshop skills      which they use to create their own     photographic art works.    6 Credits

Apply rehearsal and performance skills to a range of dances to communicate specific intentions
Analyse, explain and discuss aspects of performance in a range of dance works
Investigate influences on the development of a specific dance genre/styleAssessment Activities  Choreograph a section of dance for a group Choreograph a solo dance Perform an ethnic dance (Tango) Perform in a theatre dance work
Year 12 Dance Year 12 Dance provides dancers with the opportunity to learn Argentina’s Tango in a Moulin Rouge setting!     And...... To attend a live dance performance/workshops     And...... The course aims to provide you with opportunities for self-expression through composition and performance, and to assist you with the development of your theoretical knowledge of the fundamentals of music.   • 2. Year 12 English In 2011 we’ll be helping you to gain University Entrance Literacy. You will be aiming for 4 credits in Reading and 4 Credits in Writing throughout your course.

Intermediate ESOL Aim -Improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English to help mainstream subjects. -Work towards Level 1 Literacy Topics Reading for information and instructions. Assessments -ESOL unit standards (Levels1 and 2) English unit/achievement standards (Level 1) -Speech New Zealand OCESOL (Oral Communication in English for Speakers of Other Languages) -City and Guilds International ESOL exam -ESOL exam (school) *** You will do work and assessments at your level.   • 8. Year 12 Mathematics In Year 12 Mathematics is compulsory. The course you will be in will depend on your Year 11 results. There are 3 courses in Year 12. Year 12 Maths study algebra, functions and probability. Assessment is mostly external achievement standards with two internal Achievement standards Year 12 Matucourse is similar but more assessment is internal assessed and there are only three external standards and less algebra Year 12 Matnlook at number, statistics and geometry. This course is all internally assessed.

  • 13. Year 12 Chemistry Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, properties and reactions of matter. Investigate precipitation reactions Learn how to perform a titration, Link the structure and bonding of substances to their properties, Find out what organic substances really are, Delve into the world of acids, bases and equilibrium reactions, Discover just what electrons are up to during a redox reaction. Get reactive in Year 12 Chemistry!
  • 14. Aspirin Assessment is 2/3 external and 1/3 internal. The course includes practical work, problem solving and describing, explaining and discussing chemical ideas. Year 12 Art Year 12 Art involves students exploring a given theme in both sculptural and painting works to expand their understanding of those disciplines and create original works from these studies. The year concludes with the creation of a folio presentation which can be in either sculpture or painting.
