Reddit is an entertainment, social networking, and news website where registered community members can submit content. To know more about the Reddit, view the Presentation.
2. Introduction
Reddit is an entertainment, social networking,
and news website where registered community
members can submit content, such as text posts
or direct links, making it essentially an online
bulletin board system. Registered users can then
vote submissions up or down to organize the
posts and determine their position on the site's
pages.
Reddit was founded by Steve Huffman and
Alexis Ohanian in 2005.
The company is valued at $500 million.
6. Strenghts
Has a true slogan “The front page of the internet“
Being a content amalgamator, the front page is a mixture of the most
liked and most current things on the Internet.
Huge and diverse user base.
Content is run by the users, if people like it, It's upvoted to the top for
easy reading and access, if it's bad, old or a repost it gets sent to the
bottom out of site.
User are given Karma (internet points that unfortunately do not have
currency) for each upvote they receive and vice versa. This leads to
users only seeing useful comments that contribute to the discussion... 0r
puns.
Quick load times which make it perfect for being everyone’s homepage.
Something (or Subreddits) for everyone.
Most users can see right through lies or untruths that are posted.
7. Weaknesses
Some important news gets dismissed because the link title isn't interesting
enough (or witty)
Reddit can often give other small websites the “Reddit-Hug-of-Death” from
so much attention causing the server to crash due to massive traffic load
and unable to be accessed for a period of time.
Not for people who get easily offended.
Not every subreddit is monitored thoroughly.
Ugly design
Not for people who aren’t open minded
While there is something for everyone, users are highly likely to be turned of
this website by the other faucets it caters for (Ex. Someone using Reddit for
intelligent scientific debate could be turned of once they see avocados gone
wild.
If the world did make Reddit It's front page, the world would decrease
productivity substantially.
Harbours both political world news and porn.
8. Opportunities
With increased, easily accessible customization
options, Reddit has the chance to become the
worlds home page. Could merge with Firefox or
Google Chrome (but not Internet Explorer).
A mobile app be made to increase revenue.
9. Threats
with increased focus on ‘finding the truth’ (karma
court etc.) could lead to the perception that what
Reddit users believe, is truth. situations like this
have already caused people to be wrongfully
arrested.
A better looking website could take what Reddit
has created and become bigger.
New censorship laws that pass could ruin the
freedom that Reddit has grown.
