Emotion can be defined as an expression or instinctual feelings such as happy, embarrassed, sad, love, fear, and more. The feelings are usually expressed from the internal to certain behaviour. Therefore, the feelings affect the external reaction of changes seen physically such as the existence of facial expression.
Referring to the Kamus Bahasa Melayu (1994), emotion can be defined as the feelings in every soul of human being. While according to Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary (1995), emotion is considered as the strength of the feelings of various types such as love, gaiety, hatred, fear, jealousy and others. Apart from that, the opinion of Muhammad Uthman Najati (1993), the emotion is said as the rise of the internal feelings and instincts as a result of the behaviour of the person towards certain thing, events and experiences.

CHAPTER ONE : BACKGROUND RESEARCH
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Emotion can be defined as an expression or instinctual feelings such as happy,
embarrassed, sad, love, fear, and more. The feelings are usually expressed from the
internal to certain behaviour. Therefore, the feelings affect the external reaction of
changes seen physically such as the existence of facial expression.
Referring to the Kamus Bahasa Melayu (1994), emotion can be defined as the feelings
in every soul of human being. While according to Oxford Advanced Learners
Dictionary (1995), emotion is considered as the strength of the feelings of various
types such as love, gaiety, hatred, fear, jealousy and others. Apart from that, the
opinion of Muhammad Uthman Najati (1993), the emotion is said as the rise of the
internal feelings and instincts as a result of the behaviour of the person towards
certain thing, events and experiences.
My review is more towards the emotion of happy, fun, or is called cheerful. In my
opinion, happiness is a positive feeling that shows satisfaction from variety of angles.
According to Ahmad Zamri Mansor (2011), joy can show one’s happiness. Aristotle
also states that humans had achieve success in the pursuit of satisfaction if they are
happy.
Joy is a feeling that gives peace of mind in human life. According to my research, joy
can be divided into two steps which are assuming that life is very fulfilling and
dominating the negative effects of emotion and the positive effects of emotion.
Happiness are also not achieved through gender and age groups. In addition, life
2. 2
which hunted by depression and poverty will affect the emotion of joy because based
on my study, poverty contributes to the feeling of less happy among the community
no matter in or outside the country. Although poverty leads a negative impact towards
the society, they also achieve happiness but through different aspect or ways
compared to the fortunate society.
Colour can also create positive emotions in us. Colour is an important element
because the related colour can bring positive effects in humans. Besides that, colour
also has been proven to produce response physically. Colours that give positive
impact should be designed to achieve the level of emotion that would like to be
accomplished. Colours that give positive impact are red, orange, yellow, green, blue,
purple violet, pink, gold, grey, brown, black and silver.
Those colours have their own methodology that shows positive effects in humans.
Red is a symbol of courage and ultimate creative power, orange represents the
creativity, fun and self-esteem, yellow symbolizes the nature of optimize intelligence
and dodgy, blue represents the active imagination, purple represents the colour that
affects the heart and the mind, pink represents love and purity, gold represents
spiritual energy and strength, white represents purity, grey represents the rise of
energy, black symbolizes protection and silver symbolizes of a person that is too
creative.
Pattern can also create positive emotions because pattern can create harmony,
balance, comfort, uniformity and calmness. Harmony can be seen around us
especially in the environment. The type of pattern formed and creating harmony is
lines, knot, shape, colour, appearance, and space.
3. 3
Plants motif is the beauty symbol of nature that create the feeling of happiness and
often associated with feelings of love and gratitude. Besides that, flower is a symbol
of love, health, longevity, dignity, etc. Leaves otherwise are the symbol of loyalty,
hope and purity. Each type of flower can create a positive feeling to humans.
In conclusion, happiness is not limited to the subject, elements, principles, and etc.
Emotion is always achieved through different ways and angles. The elements of
colour, form and appearance can be a beacon of light in our lives and gives effects
that could revive negative emotions to positive emotions.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENTS
Based on the introduction that I mentioned, there are few problems in my
research. First of all, I would like to say that the feeling of happiness is a feeling
which is desired by every human being. Most of them wanted to avoid from sadness,
fear, doubt, and anger in their dictionary of lives. The incidents happened in this
world is already a “Sunnatullah” when used in pairs, if there is sadness, there is joy.
I had done some research in based on the views of other cultures. Mostly their views
are limiting and dividing the level of joy. As the evidence, I would like to express the
views from Ahmad Zamri Mansor’s writing, by Veenhoven (1995) who pointed that
each country has different happiness. According to Diener et al (1995) also stated that
the measure of joy of the culture of Asia is very low and while according to Argyle
(1987) that people who live in the country of Australia and Europe is the happiest. I
am disagreed with them because in my opinion, one’s happiness should not be
4. 4
restricted in certain human group. Happiness is felt by every people regardless of
class or other group.
I highly agree with the theory of Sigmund Frued’s, that joy and happiness can be
achieved with the existence of the relationship or intimacy with parents and family as
it is the determinant for the happiness of the future. The study was done by Veroff et
al (1981), based on the results of his research, joy are most acquired by someone who
is married compared to the person who decides to live alone without building a
family. In my opinion, it is because when a family is built, there will be feelings of
love for each other, respect, have a partner that can stay through difficulties and ease,
compared to person who is living alone.
As a result of my research, men are the most likely to feel happy because in my
opinion, they prefer to suppress their negative feelings and have a feeling of ego when
they are in otherwise situations. Contrast with some of the women who like to show
their real emotions than suppressing it because for them it is a pain that cannot be
allowed to goes on.
In addition, according to the book of Psychology, there are views from Adrian
Furnham (2008) p. s 54, life expectancy of a person who are joyous is longer
compared to a person with depression. Joy can bring a positive impact on the work
done and able to give a good and creative view, in contrast to the person who are
having depression because they may be wasting their time with something that is
futile and the characteristics of the person with depression is a person with serious
physical.
5. 5
Adrian (2008) also pointed that a person could not hide the real feelings even the
mouth are portraying the sweetest smile because the eyes are not easy to deceive on
the real feelings of a person. I agreed with that view because there is also a person
who is more comfortable suppressing his emotions by showing happy expression
despite the fact that he is under negative emotions.
Young people are the most to experience happy feeling. This is because young
people tend to think more about the fun for themselves, contrast to the aged person
who is always thinking about various aspects of life happened and will happen.
According to Rim (1993), a mature minded person will achieve happiness because
they are able to deal with the problem in a more professional and effective way. In
conclusion, I can say that joy is something abstract.
In conclusion, joy is very important in a person's life because of joy can produce a
more positive, creative, innovative and mature minded person. Depression could not
solve problems and it will cause the occurrence of acts of futility and live with
uncertainty. Learn the joy is a common thing as to increase the happiness in one self.
1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
I have my own purpose to study about the positive emotions and the objectives of my
research are:
1. To collect the related subjects with positive emotions.
2. To identify the appropriate element and principle featured in the works.
3. To identify the message of humans positive emotions which been applied in the
work.
6. 6
1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Research questions of this study are as follows:
1. What are the appropriate subjects to describe positive emotions?
2. What are the appropriate element and principle in the works?
3. Who are the references artists about emotion?
4. How to convey a message about positive emotions?
5. What techniques or the form of the works created for the making of a work that
has its own identity?
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
I use the theme of human emotion and psychological issues of colours and
shapes that affect the positive emotions of humans. The artwork that I wish to use
emphasized the elements and principles that create harmony and emphasis. I use the
elements of colour, line, shape, appearance, and space to create balance and unity of
the subject. In addition, I also created some principles of art such as harmony,
contrast, emphasis, balance, diversity and the union.
I also use the plants subject and expand the idea with patterns and colours that
represent positive emotions. I also adopt the subject of birds as a symbol of freedom.
Besides that, I highlighted the principles of art to avoid boredom and to create
diversity.
7. 7
1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RESEARCH
The importance of this research is to increase the knowledge about the
elements and principle of art that create positive impact. This study is very important
to carry out a study on the appropriate element and principal applied in the work. In
addition, this study was conducted to analyze the related subjects and create positive
emotions. Every subject has its own emblem, the research is important to fix
compilation of subject so that it looks harmonious and affect one’s emotions.
Apart from that, this study is to identify the suitable colour as the positive art therapy
which turns negative emotions to positive emotions. In addition, this study will
provide a positive impact upon the work that been produced which loaded with moral
and educated content. New researcher will also make the study as their reference.
1.7 SUMMARY
The whole chapter describes the beginning of the study, in which researchers
analyze the meaning of emotions and the problems of the research on positive issues.
This chapter also can plan the objective and the scope of questions that need to be
reviewed.
8. 8
CHAPTER TWO : LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 INTRODUCTION
Literature review describes about the reference artists that related with the
study of the researcher. Reference artists that been selected was divided into four
sections which are form, subject, content, style and technique. The study for the
reference artist is important to get an idea to be cultivated. In this chapter, researcher
will describe about the reference artworks related to the issue which is been
researched.
2.2 FORM
Artwork is not complete if there is no element of art attached such as the
elements and principles of art. Art elements are lines, appearance, shape, and colour,
while the art principle are harmony, contrast, emphasis, balance, mobility, diversity
and the union.
In conveying emotion-themed works, emphasis on colour is very important. Fun
colours could create positive emotions among the community. Besides that, the
elements of art are also important so that viewers do not feel bored by focusing on one
element and principle only. The purpose of inserting elements and principles into the
work are to create diversity and harmony.
I took the artwork of Syed Ahmad Jamal entitled "Earth and Sky 1" and produced in
1998. Those works measuring 203sm x 274.5 cm and the subject used by Syed
Ahmad Jamal is nature. He is a pioneer in the art of abstract expressionist movement
in the country. His works are divided into four parts.
9. 9
The first part is the layer of Earth, the second part is plants, the third division is the
cloud, strips of light with rain and the last part is the sky and stars. I chose this work
as a reference because the work of Syed Ahmad Jamal has a combination of elements
and principles of art. In addition, he also uses colour to create its own symbolization
like Figure 2.1 below.
Figure 2.1:
Syed Ahmad Jamal,"Langit Dan Bumi 1",203 cm x 274 cm, Acrylic on Canvas,
1998
The element of line that looks like a quick movement in the second part are
the image of plants like thatch or even look like field with dominating tilted line
(diagonal line). A red horizontal line which exists at the first part was the symbolism
of the appearance of the land which has several layers. Character of the lines on the
artwork "of the heavens and the Earth 1" is not limited to one character only because
other characters also exist such as slow, medium and fast lines. Combination of the
character of the lines has created abstract link. According to opinion of Muliyadi
(2007), a combination of elements and principles of art in those works has established
the principle of unity and diversity. Unity and diversity has led those works loaded
10. 10
with values of philosophy and culture as well as a reflection of the thought, society
and culture that represents civilization. While in terms of colour, the colour he used
was from the hot to cool colours. The symbol of the colour is the nature created by
Allah s.w.t.. Red colour symbolizes the end of the day, yellow represents the
afternoon, green represents the daytime, blue represents the dawn and the darker blue
symbolizes the darkness or night.
Figure 2.2:
Yusof Ghani,"Dance XX1", 56" x 56", Mixed media on canvas,1988
Next, in Figure 2.2 shows the artwork of Yusof Ghani entitled "Dance (XIX)",
he uses colour of harmony and peaceful. Most of the works of Yusuf Ghani, he plays
a lot with colours which show the beauty and harmony to reflect the culture of the art
of dance. He also mostly uses elements of the lines and the lines show movement. The
movement in this artwork is a dance movement. According to her statement, the
11. 11
movement of the dance is a metaphor indicating human life which is chaotic and
without direction.
Figure 2.3:
Izzal Khairi,True Heroism:The Dictator, 121 x 164cm Acrylic on canvas 2013
Figure 2.3 above is the work of Izzal Khairi entitled True Heroism: The
Dictator. Researcher chooses this artwork as a reference because this artwork is using
the element of line at the top of the work. Element of curly line with flora motifs is
also visible. The line also used repeatedly at the bottom and creates harmony. The
colour is also a cool blue colour because the colour blue shows positive situations and
shows peacefulness.
2.3 THE SUBJECT
The subject in a particular work is important because the subject has an active
role to attract viewers so that the delivery are felt and understood by the audience. The
subject of nature is a very appropriate if the subject is associated with positive
emotions because nature can pose a very soothing feeling that calms the soul. Besides
that, flowers can provide a positive point of view and each type of flower give
12. 12
positive symbolic such as red roses are said to be a symbol of elegance, beauty, and
love, lily symbolizes purity and beauty, tulips symbolizes love which full of
perfection, sunflowers represent joy and happiness, the flowers is a symbol of honour
and love, and leaves represent hope. Besides that, in terms of fauna, the birds
symbolize freedom in life.
Figure 2.4:
Affandi,"Badai Pasti Berlalu",137cm X 92cm, Oil on Canvas, 1971.
Based on Figure 2.4 entitled "Storm Definitely Passed", the artist from
Indonesia abundantly uses the subject of nature to show positive attitude such as the
sun as a symbol of hope, the waves represent life full of obstacles. The waves that
follow each other repeatedly show the life that does not know the meaning of despair
in facing each coming test. Affandi mostly used nature subjects because the subject
gives a positive effect in the work and he does not deliver messages using the
metaphor subject. Besides that, he uses a boat as human beings who are facing trials
and obstacles. This artwork is more to the human life and has a very useful message
to the community that provides inspiration, motivation and implicit philosophy.
13. 13
Figure 2.5:
Hamdan Shaarani, "Refleksi Jernih 8" 242 x 152cm 2013,Oil on Canvas 2013.
Next is the work of Hamdan Shaarani, entitled "Refleksi Jernih 8". The work
has the subject of nature which also shows a positive issue in terms of religion. He
uses the metaphor of plants around the river banks as seen in Figure 2.5. He also
stated that the dropped dried leaves brought by the current shows the metaphor of a
man that always follow the current and have no fixed stance.
Panoramic views of the forest can be seen through the refraction of water which gives
the symbol of the greatness of Allah s.w.t. through the nature beauty which acts as a
reminder to mankind to always remember Allah s.w.t. According to Zainon Abdullah
(2011), his works has three sections which have the concept of natural land, refractive
land and refractive sky. Each of these concepts has a different symbol, namely the
interpretation of the nature of the world, worldly and spiritual realm.
14. 14
2.4 CONTENT
Each artwork is incomplete if it does not have implicit content. The purpose is
to convey message that wished to be stated in the work and to be interpreted by the
observers of art. Sometimes the message of the work comes from the experience of
the particular artist.
A message that is based on emotion needs a strong subject in posing positive emotion.
Based on Prof. Hj. Hassan Iberahim (2000), although people always have different
opinions about trust and ideology, they still have the same opinion or taste of peace,
serenity, love and beauty.
Figure 2.6:
Suzlee Ibrahim,"Monsoon Series; Langkawi ",48 x 48 inch, acrylic and oil on
Canvas, 2010
Figure 2.6 shows the artwork of Suzlee Ibrahim entitled "Monsoon Series;
Langkawi ". This artwork portrays a positive expression because he made his artwork
with sensitivity, desire, responsibility and love. Monsoon artwork is based on his own
15. 15
experience during his stay in his own village. Monsoon series focuses on dark colors,
monsoon season environment and waves that struck by the winds. This implies the
use of a limited secondary color and quick, as well as a strong shot to the top of the
canvas. The artwork of Suzlee Ibrahim is not too stressed on the positive expression
because his newest artworks are moving to the aggressive feelings. The movement of
the brush effect shows the impulse and feelings that are sustained in him. He is much
more on creating artwork that has a different expression regardless whether it is
positive or negative.
Figure 2.7:
Johan Marjonid,"Arca Alam Royal Belum", acrylic on canvas, 2006.
Based on Figure 2.7, this artwork entitled "Arca Alam Royal Belum" by Johan
Marjonid. This work is characterized on nature. He also gave a positive message
when he wanted to show the beauty of nature that was created by Allah s.w.t.. Johan
Marjonid is very interested in the environment because for him, nature are able to
bring himself closer to Allah s.w.t. Johan considers nature as quite special for himself
16. 16
and his soul from day to day by looking deeply the secret stored behind the grandeur
of God's creation. The colour used is also quite mature and have a positive impact and
provide peace, serenity and harmony.
2.5 STYLE
Contemporary expression style is an overview of the image that painted by the
artist. According to Seri Athirah (2011), expressionism is mostly known as expressing
philosophy, feelings, ideas through the spontaneous artwork and aggressive painting.
This flow is to convey the message using symbols. Colours, shapes and lines are also
used. Moreover, it also touches on how the subject is delivered and what style been
used. The style presented usually derived from actual subject to be a new design or
new subject.
Figure 2.8 :
Mastura Abdul Rahman ,House of Flowers",183 cm x 276 cm,Mix Media,1999.
Based on Figure 2.8, the artwork entitled "House of Flowers" by Mastura Abdul
Rahman is the mix media artwork. The artwork is contemporary expression whereby
17. 17
she wanted to reflect the beauty and harmony of traditional Malay culture. In addition,
she also uses the subject that shows the Malay bit and uses cool color to show the
beauty and harmony. This artwork is said to be contemporary expression because
Mastura is not too direct in conveying message and uses a more metaphors subject.
2.6 TECHNIQUES
Technique in an artwork is very important because technique could be
a way to attract audiences’ interest in conveying the artwork’s message. Shelly Miller
technique is very rarely done by artists in their work. Work of Shelly Miller is a wall
painting artwork that uses the technique of decoration of cake. Looking at the figure
2.8 below, the technique used by Shelly Miller has attract the community because this
technique is rarely used in a painting artwork.
Figure 2.9:
Sugar Icing Graffitti Murals and Cake by Shelley Miller 2012.
18. 18
Most of the decorations on the cake, bright colors are used and produces
harmony. Cake is a symbol of something positive such as the symbol of birthday,
wedding anniversary, gratitude, and etc. Therefore, I tried to incorporate the symbol
to associate with the issue of positive emotions.
2.7 SUMMARY
This whole chapter is describing about the subject, form and content which
was used by reference artists. The selected reference artists are related to the
researcher’s study. This chapter enables researchers to make a new artwork.
19. 19
CHAPTER THREE : RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
3.1 INTRODUCTION
Research design and methodology is the study of the issues raised and analysis
of data that are related to the issue .This chapter explains about the research design
and methodology. In this chapter also should be divided into several subheadings
namely research design, methodology, sampling, instrumentation, data collection, and
data analysis.
3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN
The research design is divided into two parts which are the quantitative and
qualitative research. Quantitative research is the study through questionnaires, survey
and experiment. Quantitative study is the use of facilities or information which
available in books, magazines, internet and so on. Qualitative research is a study
obtained through observation, interviews, document analysis, and etc.
3.3 METHODOLOGY
Methodology is a method in developing and analyzing data. The method then
became a proof of the research. The methodology aims to provide facilities in
analyzing method and analyze the steps of the research.
3.3.1 Sampling
My theme is emotion which I did reference using a few books. I also looked
for information on the theme using the subject and element that revolve on human
positive emotions through social sites. Positive emotions that are about to be talk
about are based on organic elements and geometric.
20. 20
A study need to be done in a more detail manner on the purpose behind the organic
and geometric forms. Besides that, the study also needs to be done in terms of
appropriate colours to be used to describe positive emotions.
Colour is an important element because colour is related to the positive effect on
humans. Besides that, colour also has proven to produce physical response. Colours
that give positive impact should be designed to achieve a level of emotion that would
like to be achieved and it should be studied as a whole.
3.3.2 Instrumentation
Based on the theme made, researchers should undertake a research in-depth
about the themes that would like to be served. Researchers make observers within the
internet site and the psychology books about the purpose of geometric and organic as
well as colour. Then, the data is collected and used as data collection. Through data
collection, researcher must arrange the collected data into a masterpiece.
Besides that, this study describes about the documentation of reference artists. This
research was conducted using books and the internet on nine types of artworks made
from different artists. Among the artists that were chosen are Syed Ahmad Jamal,
Yusof Ghani, Izzal Khairi, Affandi, Hamdan Shaarani, Suzlee Ibrahim, Johan
Marjonid, Shelley Miller and Mastura Abdul Rahman. Based on those artists,
researcher breaks into several parts which are the subject of shape, content, technique
and style.
3.3.3 Data Collection
In the data collection, researcher describes the categorizing of the data and
data analysis that need to be available in the process of the production of the artwork.
21. 21
3.3.3.1 Categorizing The Data
In this section, researcher collects all the data that available and divides the
data. Next, the data was divided into two parts namely the premier data and secondary
data.
Premier data is carried out through interviews. Interviews that were carried out are
intended to obtain certainty about data that has been collected. After getting the
certainty, researcher performed the next step.
Secondary data is carried out via the internet where the researcher carried out a study
related to the theme of emotion. Pictures taken from the internet was later discussed in
practical studio in order to produce perfect artwork.
3.3.4 Data Analysis
Data analysis is the data that describes the use of the subject. Data gathered
was then been described on the symbol or the meaning behind the subject.
3.3.4.1 Using Of The Data
In this section, researcher reviewed on the use of each subject. That usage
must meet the theme or message wished to be conveyed. The appropriate element and
principle should also be reviewed so that it appear to be more organized and
meaningful. Researchers need to organize the suitable subjects to be use, the colours
should be use, lines, shape, appearance, balance of subject, unity, variety, value, and
etc. Researchers are also recommended to make appropriate composition and able to
convey message correctly.
22. 22
3.4 SUMMARY
On the whole, the research design and methodology section are intended to
simplify the process of preparing the artwork. Through this way, all data reviewed
and collected can be arranged in a more systematic manner. This process will also
facilitate suitable composition to be made.
23. 23
CHAPTER FOUR : ANALYSIS AND RESULT
4.1 INTRODUCTION
Analysis and Result is an analysis on the subject that has been selected and
related to the issues. It then will be proven through few processes to achieve the final
work. In the analysis and results section, researcher attached all data that had been
reviewed. The data that need to be attached in this chapter are the subject that portrays
positive emotions, the appropriate element and principle used and reference artists in
the making of a new artwork. All the answers to every question will be answered in
each section below.
4.2 CATEGORIZING THE DATA
Categorizing the Data section describes subjects that had been researched and
suitable to be used in conveying the theme of positive emotions. The selected subjects
are nature, geometric and organic forms. The pictures that were collected and the
meaning behind the subject.

4.3.3 Material And Technique
Materials and techniques are very important in the production of the work.
Material and technique section will explains about the substances used in the
production of the works and techniques that create the rise effect on the work.
4.3.3.1 Materials
Materials are referred to the use of materials in the making of the final
artwork. Materials that were used also were picked carefully so that it was suitable
with the theme that was meant to be conveyed.
Figure 4.17: Canvas
Canvas is an important material that needs to be available in the process of the
production of the work. Researcher uses the canvas of size 1 x 1 foot by 9 in a single
work.

Figure 4.20 : Colour posters
Colour posters Buncho was used as the background colour of the painting so that the
artwork does not seem bleak.
4.3.3.2 Technique
Technique is referred to the way subject is drawn. Besides that, it also shows
the effect onto the artwork. Technique used by the researcher in the making of the
new artwork is the line technique.
Figure 4.21 : Piping colors
I used Acrylic colours that have been inserted into plastics to make the lines and knot.

The technique that I used was the technique of lines element and made by using
Acrylic colours.
4.4 COMPOSITION AND ARTWORK
In this section, researcher make the process of subject placement, colour, and
suitable elements in the creation of interesting artworks and also documentation of the
final work.
4.4.1 Composition Study
In the composition study section, researcher describes a number of processes
before the occurrence of the final artwork for the process of selection of sketches in
the final artwork.

4.5 SUMMARY
Overall, chapter 4 tells about the documentation in the production of the final
artwork. The purpose of this chapter is to look at the effectiveness and
appropriateness of the message and the subject in conveying the message. In addition,
this process also able to identify the use of the subject to the theme that would like to
be served. Chapter 4 is able to answer the questions of the research 1 and 2 which
have not been explained more thoroughly.

CHAPTER FIVE : FINDING, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
5.1 INTRODUCTION
In chapter 5, researcher answered each related question with more detail. The
question to be described is about the subject that are applied in the artwork, the
appropriate element and the principle applied in the work, the messages conveyed, the
reference artist and identity in the artworks. All questions will be explained with
reasons on the item selected which been included in the final artwork. Based on the
final artwork, the whole subject, form, content, reference artists, and the identity of
the artists were applied.

5.2 THE SUBJECT USED
Based on Figure 5.1, the subject that was used is the subject of nature such as
sunflowers and roses. Those flowers were then reworked using forms. Researcher
chose sunflower because sunflowers represent fun, joy and happiness. Besides that, I
also take the subject of leaves because leaves show the symbol of hope and loyalty.
The leaves also clearly portray the loyal character when it always stay at the same
place till the end of the life and have a firm stand. I also used the subject of birds as a
symbol of freedom. The subject that I used is more to the subject of metaphor in
which I emphasized on the symbolism.
5.3 THE FORM USED
Based on Figure 5.1, I highlighted on the element and principle in the final
artwork. I implement elements of line where I formed the look using vertical and
horizontal lines. In terms of the element of look, I used the look of organic and
geometric shapes in 2D form. In the end there also element of color appeared, which I
used cool colors and contrast to create happiness and harmony. Harmony appeared
when I used repetition of subject and colors. The existing ties are ties of touch which
the surface can be felt. My final artwork also has spaces so that it does not seem too
crowded. Next is the principle of balance where those artworks had shown a balance
of the subject at the middle of the artwork. The variety also exists when I'm using the
same theme and ideas. Diversity also exists when I use style and attraction through
the use of art elements such as appearance, lines and colors.
44. 44
5.4 THE CONTENT OF THE WORK
My artwork shows a conscious use of colour and subject because the message
wished to be conveyed is concerned with positive emotions. The nature subject was
chosen because nature is a subject that gives peace of mind in every human being.
Flowers also give a positive sign to mankind because of her beauty and fragrance. I
used elements and principle to generate diversity, so that viewers will not get tired of
the use of that subject. In addition, my artwork also used colors that bring the
meaning of happiness, harmony, strength, loyalty, gaiety, beauty and consistency in
the establishment of the human self. My artwork can also be known as art therapy to
give a positive impact to the audience in terms of colour and subject. Peacefulness has
to be achieved by all people regardless of the any form. So I would like to emphasize
that the influence of art can also cause a person's happiness. Art is not limited to
material, popularity, and wealth. Happiness is something very valuable even it is in
small value. Golden frame refers to the care of happiness, so that it is not lost and can
be enjoyed on an ongoing basis.
5.5 REFERENCE ARTISTS
My reference artist is Mastura Abdul Rahman entitled "House of Flowers". I
chose her artwork because she uses elements and principle that leads to the effect of
beauty and harmony. Based on Sabri (2010), artwork by Mastura was emphasized on
the colours to convey meaning in traditional Malay bit. Her work also uses the same
style of the contemporary expression. Her artwork is shown in figure below.
45. 45
Figure 5.2 : Artwork by Mastura Abdul Rahman.
The second artwork that I referred to is the artwork entitled " Badai Pasti Berlalu” by
Affandi. The artwork has elements and principles that use the nature treatment. The
artwork also shows positive symbols where this work features more on human life.
Besides that, Affandi uses a metaphor to convey the subject of the message. Works of
Affandi is as below.
Figure 5.3 : Artwork by Affandi “ Badai Pasti Berlalu”
Apart from that, he uses a boat as the human beings who are facing the trials and
obstacles. This work has a message that is very useful to the community by providing
inspiration, motivation and the implicit philosophy.
46. 46
5.6 ORIGINALITY IN THE ARTWORKS
Based on my reference artists above, the identity that I used in my work was the
subject of organic and geometric look. Based on the work of Mastura Abdul Rahman,
although her work emphasizes on the pattern and appearance, she uses the techniques
of glazing or visual ties. Visual ties can only be seen and unlike my artwork, it can be
touch on the surface. Her artwork also more to the features of Malay bit in contrast to
the characteristics of my artwork which is diverse.
While based on the work of Affandi, he uses lines element in a spontaneous
way compared to my artwork which had been performed in a organized and detail
manner. Work of Affandi also uses the subject more to ocean, fishermen and life. My
artwork is more to art therapy that led to the positive emotions of humans using
colours.
5.7 CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this study has answered all the objectives of the study and
research questions. Researcher had successfully analyzes the subjects related to
positive emotions. Elements and principle also had able to be resolved in order to
deliver the message of positive emotions.
Besides that, the questions of the subject and the elements had been answered in
chapter 4. The subjects and art elements were analyzed one by one to facilitate
researcher in the making of the final artwork. Reference artists were also had been
answered in chapter 2 and chapter 5. The content of the message of the final artwork
has been answered in chapter 5. Each refurbished artworks will become the identity of
the artist. The identity of researcher was described in Chapter 5.
47. 47
This study is useful to individuals to be used as a reference. I have the opinion
because this research can provide an easier way in preparing a work laden with moral
content. In addition, I am also very satisfied because I was given the opportunity to
conduct this research in a more detailed manner on the emotion which in terms of
psychology.
This research should be continued because it functioned to provide the advantage as
well as benefits to new researchers in conducting a study of an issue. Studies
conducted will also be compiled into a book loaded with knowledge and process in
making an artwork.
5.8 RECOMMENDATION
Abstract expressionism artwork is very difficult because researchers will
require a very detailed study. This is due to the subject chosen should be suitable and
meet the messages conveyed. Besides that, the difficulties in producing the subject
which uses geometric and organic in appearance should be arranged properly to create
harmony and right consistency. Colour selection also should be done in detail to
create an element of cons, assertion and harmony. Message delivered are referred to
emotion, so researchers must be careful in choosing the colours, subjects and the
suitable look.

5.9 SUMMARY
The whole chapter tells about the subject, form, content, reference artists, and
originality that have been done by the researcher in the making of a new creative and
innovative artwork. This chapter facilitates the researcher in tracking the effectiveness
of the selected subject and the element according to the message to be conveyed.
