This document summarizes crime statistics for the Lakewood Police Department in July 2010. It provides comparisons of crime rates from July 2009 to July 2010. Most categories of crime decreased, including a 10.1% decrease in total crime. However, some violent crimes like aggravated assault and robbery increased in July 2010 compared to the previous year. Gang arrests in 2010 totaled 39 people as of August 1st.

Rapes are now only 4 less then in 2009. The robbery number is key for discerning a trend in violent crime. Whenever I give this brief outside of Lakewood, I always start the presentation with the following question: “How many think crime in Lakewood is the worst in the County?” Generally 40% or more of the audience raise their hand; When I ask that those who think crime in Lakewood is the second worst in the County to also raise their hands…, most of the remaining hands go up.
