Product vision: Microsoft continues to execute on its
roadmap. Microsoft Quick Insights (a feature within Power
BI) is a basic form of augmented data discovery, initially
available in the cloud service. In 4Q17, however, it was also
introduced in the desktop client for variance analysis — to
identify what has most contributed to changes in sales, for
example, from one quarter to the next. The conversational
chatbots with Microsoft Cortana also are differentiators, and
Microsoft Surface Hub is touch-enabled and supports the
display of Power BI content on wall-size displays in executive
board rooms. The ability to provide a closed-loop process
from insight to action is supported by the integration of
Power BI with Microsoft Flow and within its business
application, Microsoft Dynamics 365. Virtual reality and
Power BI integration with Holo Lens are currently works in
progress.

The inspiration behind this presentation is that it is the most asked question of 2017/2018.
When I think of these 2 tools going head to head, I always think of this advert.
Tableau implements just the charts that it believes that the users need. It is part of their philosophy not to include any charts that are considered distracting or, too complex to read.
To facilitate the right options of charts
In April 2018, Tableau introduced a new pricing strategy that tailors to the Individual user rather than it’s 3 products

Simple – Single data source, well defined data and two dimensional views
Medium – Single or multiple data sources, simple calculations, multivariate analysis
Complex – Multiple data sources, complex calculations, advanced analytics
Narratives os also included (where graphs are interpreted by NLP)
Tableau Allows data to be dropped into view first, then you can toggle visualisations, PowerBI works the other way around.
Tableau provides what if analyses dynamically as the data is being executed. PowerBI tends to do this kind of analyses in the back.
PowerBI is stronger in the Predictive modelling , reporting and optimization. Tableau is better suited to Analytics and when strong data visualisations are needed.

Power BI enjoys the advantages of Microsoft business analytics that includes platforms such as Azure Machine learning, SQL Server based Analysis Services, data streaming in real time, and many Azure databases offers. It is difficult for Tableau to compete with this.
PowerBI is self contained Microsoft architecture and benefits a lot from the familiar interface, the DAX language understanding from Excel users.
Tableau’s advantage lies in self-containing data visualization and its advanced capabilities, and scalability.
