1. The Easter
Easter in our country is perceived mainly as a Christian holiday. The celebration begins on
Holy Thursday, it is followed by Good Friday with strict fasting and peaks
on Silent Saturday. At the Easter Sunday worship underway to celebrate the resurrection of
Jesus Christ. The feast begins, and folk festivals too. On the festive table could be found
mostly potato salad, cold cuts, sandwiches, cold dishes, desserts and Easter cakes made with
yeast dough . Young people are looking forward to Easter Monday, which is known by gentle
whipping with traditional whip and spraying with water. Jungs visit girls to whip them gently
and pour them over with water. Boys are recieved a reward from girls. Mostly chocolate egg,
chocolate bunny.
Egg
It is a symbol of new life, as well as itself contains the germ. It means life force, birth, and
immortality through the shell and feel safe. The reason for eating eggs over Easter was also
that were allowed to eat during Lent. The symbolic significance of the particular coloring
eggs to red symbolizes love and passion, in green stands for nature and in amber the sun.
Lamb
Lamb is symbol of innocence and fight with evil. It was already widespread in pre-Christian
tradition throughout the Mediterranean, in the pastoral areas . In the Jewish tradition, lamb
was used as a sacrificial animal for sin. In Christian religions is lamb one of the symbols of
Christ, according to the Christian faith he is the Lamb sacrificed for the salvation of the
world.
2. Rabbit
Probably it originated in pagan rituals celebrating the arrival of spring, as well as chicken.
Nowdays, we purchase chocolate ones and serve them on the Easter table. They supposed to
bring us blessings. Legend says that once witches were taken the form of a rabbit. People
believed that witches in the form of a rabbit brings protection, and therefore people worshiped
them.
Whip
It´s knited from wicker and decorated with ribbon or other colored strings. On Easter Monday
boys whip girlsvery gently to be healthy. On the second day on Tuesday, girls can repay it
back. Whipping rods should bring health, fertility, happiness and repel evil. Easter whipping
is to remind the flogging of Jesus Christ.
