In a July survey of 168 AVA members, 111 of the 168 chose
education or research as the most pressing challenges for
industry partners to address. Overall, 3 out of 4 top
priorities for the practice of Vascular Access are focused on
better education and research.
In particular:
1. More and better resources for clinician education
2. Data collection and sharing tools for benchmarking
3. More research to advance VA best practices
Vascular Access professional segments that were more
likely than average to see a need for clinician education
were: Non decisions makers, military/govt. hospitals, RNs,
BSNs
Vascular Access professional segments that were more
likely than average to see a need for benchmarking tools:
Practicing over 20 years, decision makers
Vascular Access professional segments that were more
likely than average to see a need for research on best
practices were: Practicing under 20 years
The survey also revealed that among the lowest priorities
were eliminating medication errors, needle stick injuries
and blood exposure.
