INTRODUCTION
WHY SMART PARKING IS
NEEDED
• You won’t believe but the statistics say 6 out of 10 people cancel
their plans of going out by their personal vehicle just because they
aren’t able
to find a parking
space. This is why
India needs a smart
parking where the
Drivers can easily
find the parking
space.
WHAT IS SMART
PARKING .
• Smart Parking is an intelligent parking
system that assists drivers in finding a
parking space. Available spaces are usually
indicated using a digital displays next to
roads to navigate drivers to a vacant spot.
• The system includes the use of low
maintenance battery powered wireless
parking sensors to collect real-time data. The
data is used to help drivers find available
parking spaces without much hassle.
HOW OUR PROJECT CAN SOLVE THE
PARKING PROBLEM.
• Our smart parking indication system can
help the drivers to easily find out the
parking slot in parking areas.
• In our project available parking slots are
indicated on the LCD display which would
be installed outside the parking area. In
case of parking is full , parking full message
is displayed on the display, this saves the
drivers time of manually checking the
availability of parking space.

HOW THE SYSTEM
WORKS
• The block diagram consists of Arduino Uno, IR sensors, servo motor, LCD
• display & power supply.
• Power the motor with +5v and send PWM signals from Arduino Uno to make
this motor rotate.
• Servo motors are used to lift the gates at the entry & exit of the parking area.
• Infrared sensor is placed at the parking slot along with the servo motor.
• On the IR board Obstacle detection LED indicator that detects the vehicle
movement.
• Then, it is updated to the Arduino uno, used to track the number of vehicles
parked in
• the parking area.

• LCD Screen that displays the status of parking slots.

ARDUINO UNO
• Arduino Uno is an open-source microcontroller board based on the
ATmega328P microcontroller. It is one of the most popular boards in
the Arduino family and is widely used for prototyping and DIY
electronics projects.
• The Arduino Uno board has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6
can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz quartz
crystal, a USB connection, a power jack, and an ICSP header. It can
be powered either by connecting it to a computer via USB or by
using an external power supply.
• The board can be programmed using the Arduino Integrated
Development Environment (IDE), which is a software application
that provides a simple and easy-to-use platform for writing and
uploading code to the board. The Arduino programming language is
based on C++ and is designed to be easy to learn and use even for
those with no prior programming experience.
• Overall, the Arduino Uno is a versatile and affordable platform for
creating a wide range of electronic projects, from simple blinking
LED lights to complex robotics and automation systems.
LCD DISPLAY
• A 16x2 LCD display is a type of alphanumeric LCD (Liquid Crystal
Display) module that can display 16 columns of characters with 2 rows.
Each row can display up to 16 characters, which are typically 5x8
pixels in size.
• The 16x2 LCD display is a popular choice for small electronic projects
and is often used to display basic information such as text, numbers,
and symbols. It typically uses a parallel interface to communicate with
a microcontroller or other device, and can be easily controlled using
simple commands and functions.
• To use a 16x2 LCD display in a project, you will typically need to
connect it to a microcontroller or other device, and then write code to
send commands and data to the display. This can be done using a
variety of programming languages and platforms, including Arduino,
Raspberry Pi, and others.
• Some common features of 16x2 LCD displays include backlighting
(usually in blue or green), adjustable contrast, and the ability to display
special characters and symbols. They are also generally low-power
and easy to use, making them a popular choice for DIY electronics
projects.
IR PROXIMITY SENSORS.
• IR (Infrared) proximity sensors are sensors that can detect the presence
of objects in their proximity by emitting infrared light and measuring the
reflection of that light. They are commonly used in robotics, automation,
and other applications where the detection of objects at a distance is
required.
• IR proximity sensors work by emitting a beam of infrared light and
measuring the time it takes for the light to reflect back to the sensor. The
sensor contains a receiver that detects the reflected light and uses it to
determine the distance to the object.
• There are two main types of IR proximity sensors: reflective and non-
reflective. Reflective sensors use a single IR emitter and receiver to
detect the presence of an object in front of the sensor by measuring the
amount of reflected light. Non-reflective sensors, on the other hand, use
two separate sensors to detect the presence of an object by measuring
the time it takes for the IR light to travel from one sensor to the other.
• IR proximity sensors are commonly used in a variety of applications,
including obstacle detection, line following, and object tracking. They are
often used in combination with microcontrollers or other electronic
devices to control motors, actuators, and other components based on
the sensor readings.
SERVO MOTOR
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT
• Arduino IDE(Integrated Development Environment )
ARDUINO IDE
• The Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is a
software application used to write and upload code to Arduino
boards. It is an open-source software that can be downloaded and
used free of charge.
• The Arduino IDE provides a simple and easy-to-use interface for
writing code and uploading it to Arduino boards. It includes a code
editor with features such as syntax highlighting, auto-indentation,
and code completion to help users write code more efficiently. The
IDE also has a built-in serial monitor that allows users to
communicate with their Arduino boards and debug their code.
• In addition to the basic features, the Arduino IDE supports
a variety of libraries and tools that make it easier to work
with Arduino boards. It also provides a platform for users
to share and download code, making it easier for
beginners to learn and experiment with different projects.
• The Arduino IDE supports a wide range of boards,
including the popular Arduino Uno, Arduino Mega, and
Arduino Nano, among others. It can also be used with
third-party boards that are compatible with the Arduino
programming language.
• Overall, the Arduino IDE is a powerful tool for developing
and prototyping projects with Arduino boards. Its ease of
use and open-source nature make it a popular choice
among hobbyists, students, and professionals alike.
CHALLENGES & LIMITATIONS.
• 1. Infrastructure: Implementing a smart parking system requires
a significant investment in infrastructure, including sensors,
communication networks, and software. Installing these
components can be a challenging and expensive process,
particularly in urban areas where space is limited.
• 2. Integration: Smart parking systems often require integration
with other systems, such as traffic management systems and
public transportation systems. This can be difficult to achieve due
to differences in technology and data standards.
• 3. Accuracy: Smart parking systems rely on accurate data to
provide real-time information about parking availability. However,
inaccurate data can lead to frustration and confusion for drivers,
particularly if they are directed to a parking space that is already
occupied.
• 4. Maintenance: Like any technology, smart parking systems require
maintenance and upkeep. This can be challenging, particularly if the
systems are installed in hard-to-reach locations or require frequent
calibration.
• 5. Security: Smart parking systems may be vulnerable to hacking and
cyber attacks, particularly if they rely on wireless networks to
communicate with other systems. This can compromise the security of
both the system and the data it collects.
• 6. Cost: Implementing a smart parking system can be expensive,
particularly for municipalities and other organizations with limited
budgets. This can be a barrier to adoption, particularly in areas where
parking revenues are low.
CONCLUSION
• This project detects the empty slots & helps the drivers to
find parking space in unfamiliar city. The average waiting
time of users for parking their vehicles is effectively reduced
in this system. The optimal solution is provided by the
proposed system, where most of the vehicles find parking
space successfully. The Arduino Uno based system can
effectively satisfy the needs and requirement of existing car
parking hassles thereby minimizing the time consumed to
find vacant parking lot & real time information rendering.
The smart parking system provides better performance, low
cost & efficient large scale parking system.
• Smart parking is a good investment for cities that have lots
of traffic problems and want to increase their efficiency.
Also, for commercial real estate, this can be quite
interesting. Especially for large parking lots in front of
shopping malls, offices and industrial buildings, the
technology can help to reduce emissions, time spent on
searching for parking spots and costs.

WHY SMART PARKING IS NEEDED • You won’t believe but the statistics say 6 out of 10 people cancel their plans of going out by their personal vehicle just because they aren’t able to find a parking space. This is why India needs a smart parking where the Drivers can easily find the parking space.
  • 5. WHAT IS SMART PARKING . • Smart Parking is an intelligent parking system that assists drivers in finding a parking space. Available spaces are usually indicated using a digital displays next to roads to navigate drivers to a vacant spot. • The system includes the use of low maintenance battery powered wireless parking sensors to collect real-time data. The data is used to help drivers find available parking spaces without much hassle.
  • 6. HOW OUR PROJECT CAN SOLVE THE PARKING PROBLEM. • Our smart parking indication system can help the drivers to easily find out the parking slot in parking areas. • In our project available parking slots are indicated on the LCD display which would be installed outside the parking area. In case of parking is full , parking full message is displayed on the display, this saves the drivers time of manually checking the availability of parking space.

HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS • The block diagram consists of Arduino Uno, IR sensors, servo motor, LCD • display & power supply. • Power the motor with +5v and send PWM signals from Arduino Uno to make this motor rotate. • Servo motors are used to lift the gates at the entry & exit of the parking area. • Infrared sensor is placed at the parking slot along with the servo motor. • On the IR board Obstacle detection LED indicator that detects the vehicle movement. • Then, it is updated to the Arduino uno, used to track the number of vehicles parked in • the parking area. • Then, it is updated to the Arduino uno, used to track the number of vehicles parked in • the parking area. • LCD Screen that displays the status of parking slots.

It is one of the most popular boards in the Arduino family and is widely used for prototyping and DIY electronics projects. • The Arduino Uno board has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz quartz crystal, a USB connection, a power jack, and an ICSP header. It can be powered either by connecting it to a computer via USB or by using an external power supply. • The board can be programmed using the Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE), which is a software application that provides a simple and easy-to-use platform for writing and uploading code to the board. The Arduino programming language is based on C++ and is designed to be easy to learn and use even for those with no prior programming experience. • Overall, the Arduino Uno is a versatile and affordable platform for creating a wide range of electronic projects, from simple blinking LED lights to complex robotics and automation systems.

This can be done using a variety of programming languages and platforms, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and others. • Some common features of 16x2 LCD displays include backlighting (usually in blue or green), adjustable contrast, and the ability to display special characters and symbols. They are also generally low-power and easy to use, making them a popular choice for DIY electronics projects.
  • 19. • IR (Infrared) proximity sensors are sensors that can detect the presence of objects in their proximity by emitting infrared light and measuring the reflection of that light. Installing these components can be a challenging and expensive process, particularly in urban areas where space is limited. • 2. Integration: Smart parking systems often require integration with other systems, such as traffic management systems and public transportation systems. This can be difficult to achieve due to differences in technology and data standards. • 3. Accuracy: Smart parking systems rely on accurate data to provide real-time information about parking availability. However, inaccurate data can lead to frustration and confusion for drivers, particularly if they are directed to a parking space that is already occupied.

This can be challenging, particularly if the systems are installed in hard-to-reach locations or require frequent calibration. • 5. This can compromise the security of both the system and the data it collects. • 6. Cost: Implementing a smart parking system can be expensive, particularly for municipalities and other organizations with limited budgets.   • 28. CONCLUSION • This project detects the empty slots & helps the drivers to find parking space in unfamiliar city. The average waiting time of users for parking their vehicles is effectively reduced in this system. The optimal solution is provided by the proposed system, where most of the vehicles find parking space successfully. The Arduino Uno based system can effectively satisfy the needs and requirement of existing car parking hassles thereby minimizing the time consumed to find vacant parking lot & real time information rendering. The smart parking system provides better performance, low cost & efficient large scale parking system. • Smart parking is a good investment for cities that have lots of traffic problems and want to increase their efficiency. Also, for commercial real estate, this can be quite interesting. Especially for large parking lots in front of shopping malls, offices and industrial buildings, the technology can help to reduce emissions, time spent on searching for parking spots and costs.
