Agriculture in India 
 India is agricultural country. about 75% 
people have Agri profession. 
 Farmers produce so many crops in there 
farm such as, cotton, sugarcane, soyabean, 
sorgham etc. 
 Large hector area is cultivated for farming to 
fulfillment the needs of Indian people.

 Farmers carried out process of farming with 
honestly and with lots of effort. 
“BUT’’ 
 The nature give no support to farmer. i.e. 
change in climate, Drought, Heavy rain and 
mainly attack of Insect, pest and Various 
diseases on crop. 
 Finally due to all of this problem Farmer 
Attempt to 
SUICIDE

What is Biotechnology ?
Biotechnology is a use 
of the living system and 
organisms to develop or make 
useful products, or “any 
technological application that 
uses biological system and 
living organisms thereof, to 
make or modifiy product or 
process for specific use”

 The wide concept of “Biotechnology” 
encompasses a wide range of procedure 
for modifying living organisms according 
to human purpose, going back to 
domestication of animals, cultivation of 
plants, and improvement to these 
through breeding programs and 
hybridization. 
 Modern usage also include genetic 
engineering as well as cell and tissue 
culture. 
 For thousands of year, humankind has 
used biotechnology in Agriculture, Food 
production and medicine.

 Biofertilizer are the substsnce in which 
micro-organism are used to fertile the 
soil.

 Biofertilizer are the product containing 
living microbes which have ability to 
mobilize nutritionally important 
element from nonusable to usable form 
through biological process. 
 Biofertilizer is also called as microbial 
inoculant
Types of Biofertilizer. 
 Nitrogen fixing Biofertilizer:- 
• Symbiotic 
• Nonsymbiotic 
 Phosphate metabolizing 
Biofertilizer:- 
e. g.:- Rhizobiun, Azolla, Aspergillus, 
Penicillium, Azatobactor, BGA etc.
Scope of Biofertilizer 
 Increasing crop yield by 30-40% 
 Fix atmospheric Nitrogen free of costs. 
 Replacing 15-20% phosphatic Requirnment. 
 Activating the soil biologically and increase the 
natural fertility of soil. 
 They are environment friendly.
Tissue culture
Tissue culture Banana 
 Tissue culture banana give 
high yield about 20-30 tones/Acre as 
compare to ordinary 
crop. 
 This banana crop is resist the attack 
of insect pest and various diseases.
Transgenic Crop 
 Transgenic crop or GM crop are plant 
use in agriculture, the DNA of which has 
been modified using genetic 
engineering technique.
