I. Plot Summary
A. Tum and Pech’s return to Tbong Khnom
 They travelled across forest and rice field to
Thbong khmom and sleep on the tree.
 They emerged from forest and arrived the village
asking children to find the right direction to Miss
Teav’s house.

B. Teav’s Arranged Marriege to the Governor’s son
• Orh-Chhoun tried to arrange married his son (Moern
Ngoun) with Teav. (Rising Action)
• -Orh-Chhoun and his wife prepared special gift as the
fresh fruit and visit Teav’s house and met Teav’s
mother.
• -Teav’s mother told Teav to get marriage with Moern
Ngoun but Teav reject and ask other children to
substitute her. (Climax)

C. The consummation of Tum and Teav’s Love
• Tum arrive Teav’s house while her mother didn’t stay
home. At First, Teav didn’t know Tum until she told
Nor to ask who is that.
• While Tum and Teav were making love, Teav’s
mother arrive from the pagoda and Tum rush to leave.
• Tum exaggerate to be a new customer to visit Teav
and Teav’s mother invite him to stay at her home.

D. Tum’s Summoning by the King and Separate from
Teav.
• King knew Tum and Pech’s talent and command Orh-
Chhoun to arranged them to work at the royal palace.
• Tum didn’t want to go because he would be far away
from his love but, that was the king’s command.
• -Tum and Pech went back to their homeland at Ba-
Phnom to say good bye to their mother and Abbot.
II. Characters
• Tum: Handsome, Friendly and Enthusiasm.
• Pech: smart, easy going and self-confident
• Teav: vulnerable,honest, pretty disobedient.
• Teav’s mother: greedy and selfish
• Orh-Chhoun: powerful and long term thinking.
• Nor: honest
III. Setting
A. Place:
 Ba Phnom district in Prey Veng province
 In the forest along the road to Tboung Khmom
 Teav’s house
 In the village

B. Social environment:
 Monks can do business
 People are kind and friendly and allow people from
far away to stay their house.
 Young ladies practice “in the shade”
 Citizens follow Buddhism.

C. Atmosphere:
 People live in peace and harmony
 Practice “In the shade” (Chaul Mlubb)
IV. Theme
Theme: The central idea, or insight, about life or human
behavior that story reveals and linger in our hearts and
minds long after we’ve read it.
• Sometime, marriage arrangement by greed or fear can
cause children to become disobedient and unhappy.
• The Majesty of power can lead people to separate from
their love.
V. Irony
Irony: Refers to unexpected difference or lack of
agreement between appearance and truth or between
expectation and reality. There are three irony: dramatic
irony, verbal irony, and situational irony.
 Dramatic irony:
Example:
Tum and Teav, both fall in love at the first sight and they
make secret love, but Teav's mother is unaware of her
daughter's love for the young monk.
V. Irony (con’t)
 Verbal irony :
Example:
The second time, when Teav's mother met Tom at her
house Tom said that he just comes to visit and treats Tev
as sister.
 Situational irony :
Example:
Tum went to see Neang No and begged her to let him into
Teav’s bedroom. Outside the story, we thought may Neang
No didn’t allow but finally she approved.
VI. Symbol
Symbol: Is anything that stands for, or represents,
something else. In the story, a character, an action, an
object, or an animal can be symbolic. Often these symbol
stand for something abstract, like a force of nature, a
condition of the world, or an idea.
• King Rea-mea : represent a law and majesty.
• Tum and Teav : represent a truth and purity love
• Abbot : who is very wise and holy person

• Yeay Pan : who is very wise and holy person
• The cake : is represent daughter
• Mold : represents the mother.
VII. Moral Values
 Moral values: story teaches to all the parents
shouldn't greedy and the disadvantage of greedy. For
example: in the story Yeay Phan would like to get
married with a rich men from elite family that Teave
doesn't love because Teav’s mother wants her to live
in peace and harmony.
 King Rea-Mea: is a good king that he allowed Tum to
live in the royal palace and becomes a singer call
Moeun Ek. Although Tum who was from poor family
and lived in the countryside.
VIII. Style and Tone
A. Style:
 Style of writing : The writer use the word formal
writing style very short sentence.
Example: Part 3 until part 7 the writer using the word very
simple that can make the reader easy to understand of the
text.
 Organized of the text: The writer is prepare very well .
Example: Part 3 ( 299-394) until part 7 (447-531).
 Point of view: (ex: he; she; we; they)
 Organize: well prepare that make the reader easy to
catch up. (part 3 to part 7)

B. Tone
 Tone: The writer wanted to reveal the reader knowing
the result of the story.
Example: Arranged marriage
Example: The power of king Rea-mea
 Attitude by language: The writer is showing about
the character’s language.
Example: Tum has a beautiful voice but he is immaturity.
Example: Teave’s mother is greedy women that arrange
Teave’s married with Moeurn Nguon who have property.

  • 3. I. Plot Summary A. Tum and Pech’s return to Tbong Khnom  They travelled across forest and rice field to Thbong khmom and sleep on the tree.  They emerged from forest and arrived the village asking children to find the right direction to Miss Teav’s house.
  • 4. Plot Summary (con’t) B. Teav’s Arranged Marriege to the Governor’s son • Orh-Chhoun tried to arrange married his son (Moern Ngoun) with Teav. (Rising Action) • -Orh-Chhoun and his wife prepared special gift as the fresh fruit and visit Teav’s house and met Teav’s mother. • -Teav’s mother told Teav to get marriage with Moern Ngoun but Teav reject and ask other children to substitute her. (Climax)
  • 5. Plot Summary (con’t) C. The consummation of Tum and Teav’s Love • Tum arrive Teav’s house while her mother didn’t stay home. At First, Teav didn’t know Tum until she told Nor to ask who is that. • While Tum and Teav were making love, Teav’s mother arrive from the pagoda and Tum rush to leave. • Tum exaggerate to be a new customer to visit Teav and Teav’s mother invite him to stay at her home.

Tum’s Summoning by the King and Separate from Teav. • King knew Tum and Pech’s talent and command Orh- Chhoun to arranged them to work at the royal palace. • Tum didn’t want to go because he would be far away from his love but, that was the king’s command. • -Tum and Pech went back to their homeland at Ba- Phnom to say good bye to their mother and Abbot.
  • 7. II. Characters • Tum: Handsome, Friendly and Enthusiasm. • Pech: smart, easy going and self-confident • Teav: vulnerable,honest, pretty disobedient. • Teav’s mother: greedy and selfish • Orh-Chhoun: powerful and long term thinking. • Nor: honest
  • 8. III. Setting A. Place:  Ba Phnom district in Prey Veng province  In the forest along the road to Tboung Khmom  Teav’s house  In the village Map of Prey Veng and Kampong Cham province
  • 9. Setting (con’t) B. Social environment:  Monks can do business  People are kind and friendly and allow people from far away to stay their house.  Young ladies practice “in the shade”  Citizens follow Buddhism.
  • 10. Setting (con’t) C. Atmosphere:  People live in peace and harmony  Practice “In the shade” (Chaul Mlubb)
  • 11. IV. Theme Theme: The central idea, or insight, about life or human behavior that story reveals and linger in our hearts and minds long after we’ve read it. • Sometime, marriage arrangement by greed or fear can cause children to become disobedient and unhappy. • The Majesty of power can lead people to separate from their love.
  • 12. V. Irony Irony: Refers to unexpected difference or lack of agreement between appearance and truth or between expectation and reality. There are three irony: dramatic irony, verbal irony, and situational irony.  Dramatic irony: Example: Tum and Teav, both fall in love at the first sight and they make secret love, but Teav's mother is unaware of her daughter's love for the young monk.
  • 13. V. Irony (con’t)  Verbal irony : Example: The second time, when Teav's mother met Tom at her house Tom said that he just comes to visit and treats Tev as sister.  Situational irony : Example: Tum went to see Neang No and begged her to let him into Teav’s bedroom. Outside the story, we thought may Neang No didn’t allow but finally she approved.
  • 14. VI. Symbol Symbol: Is anything that stands for, or represents, something else. In the story, a character, an action, an object, or an animal can be symbolic. Often these symbol stand for something abstract, like a force of nature, a condition of the world, or an idea. • King Rea-mea : represent a law and majesty. • Tum and Teav : represent a truth and purity love • Abbot : who is very wise and holy person
  • 15. Symbol (con’t) • Yeay Pan : who is very wise and holy person • The cake : is represent daughter • Mold : represents the mother.
  • 16. VII. Moral Values  Moral values: story teaches to all the parents shouldn't greedy and the disadvantage of greedy. For example: in the story Yeay Phan would like to get married with a rich men from elite family that Teave doesn't love because Teav’s mother wants her to live in peace and harmony.  King Rea-Mea: is a good king that he allowed Tum to live in the royal palace and becomes a singer call Moeun Ek. Although Tum who was from poor family and lived in the countryside.
  • 17. VIII. Style and Tone A. Style:  Style of writing : The writer use the word formal writing style very short sentence. Example: Part 3 until part 7 the writer using the word very simple that can make the reader easy to understand of the text.  Organized of the text: The writer is prepare very well . Example: Part 3 ( 299-394) until part 7 (447-531).  Point of view: (ex: he; she; we; they)  Organize: well prepare that make the reader easy to catch up. (part 3 to part 7)
  • 18. Style and Tone (con’t) B. Tone  Tone: The writer wanted to reveal the reader knowing the result of the story. Example: Arranged marriage Example: The power of king Rea-mea  Attitude by language: The writer is showing about the character’s language. Example: Tum has a beautiful voice but he is immaturity. Example: Teave’s mother is greedy women that arrange Teave’s married with Moeurn Nguon who have property.
